Dr. Fred Brenning Craddock distinguished preacher and teacher, died on March 6, 2015. The Wikipedia information, in several places, spelled his middle name as Benning. He was named after his father and when he was growing up in Humboldt, Tennessee, he went by the name of Brenning, since his father was called Fred. He did not begin to go by the name of Fred until, at the age of 18, he was enrolling as a freshman at Johnson Bible College in Kimberlin Heights, Tennessee. The clerk enrolling him asked him his name and he answered, "Brenning." She asked for his name a couple of times more and he kept answering "Brenning." When she asked again, in frustration he said, "My name is Fred." This exchange is is delightfully retold by "Fred" on page 112 of his 2009 book, "Reflections on My Call to Preach."

His family and many friends would appreciate the correct spelling of his name. Regarding wikimediafoundation.org

If Wikipedia is separated into two distinct parts it would help researchers lot more than the current hodgepodge basket where all objective (science) and subjective (non-science) are information is mixed up in such an inseparable way that Wikipedia comes across as anti-science and driven by political and personal agendas. I propose that there are two streams

STEMWikipedia and HUMWikipedia.

For STEMWikipedia, only those who have advanced degrees in STEM fields (which needs to be verified) should be considered for editorial role. Several tribunals of experts need to be constituted to resolve disputes.

HUMWikipedia stands for humanities. In other words, it non-STEM. Anybody can be editor for this part of Wikipedia. This section of the Wikipedia also needs to have tribunals for dispute resolution. Tribunals should be made up of people who hold views from far left to far right. Only those already are either editors or tribunal members on STEMWikipedia should be excluded from any decsion making roles in HUMWikipedia.

As of now, there is very little trust in the data/information that is being disseminated through the subjective part of the Wikipedia which in turn is hurting the objective parts of Wikipedia where the information is quite useful and mostly correct modulo vandalism and leaking of opnuions from the the subjective side.

I have been a modest donor to Wikipedia in the past but will hold back till political biases are eliminated from the subjective side of this wonderful resource. I also request all donors to consider whether Wikipedia is unbiased or not in while planning your charitable contributions every year. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Telugujoshi (talk) 00:16, 17 April 2015 (UTC)

Fellas, I read your page on Society. It was so well written that I can't believe our society is as trashed up as it is. I know this is very difficult to do ,but is it possible to write about what makes society livable or unlivable? I'm 57 yrs. old, and every time I go into a classroom, which I've done 2 or 3 times in the past 10 years, I feel like I'm visiting a Dentist's office. I don't think I'm the only one. I don't like to write this, but should society be based on protecting the individuals right to protect the identity of his own people or culture, or should it be based on morality? Does a society exist without morality? Should society be based on the ability to disable or incapacitate others? Why should I have to live in a society that protects the rights of other people to annoy? Isn't my right to tranquility as important as another's right to annoy me? In today's society because of social media it is impossible to survive as someone who is quiet and meek. I, simply, think it should be talked about once in a while, and it never is. I can't talk about it much because I can't. I'm schizophrenic, with an ulcer, and I have diabetic neuropathy of the feet, with two numb fingers on my left hand.

Supposition: considering the dysfunctionality of our modern society, can we afford to continue fighting a brutal enemy as well as alienating approx. 35% of our own population. I don't believe in the idea of communism or a mideval totalitarian society, but maybe it's time to start thinking about encouraging an agrarian society that values ideas, learning, relationships and happiness as opposed to just having or acquiring things.

I came here via en:Wikipedia:Press coverage 2015--> Wikipedia Pages of Star Clients Altered by P.R. Firm which has a link to Terms of Use and then went to the specific section "Paid contributions without disclosure"

The second sentence of the first paragraph "As part of these obligations, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation." did not make sense to me because (it turns out) the use of "compensation" in this context is US specific (see the OED "d. Salary or wages, esp. of a public servant; payment for services rendered. U.S.").

The more usual meaning of compensation is that which is given as the first meaning in the OED "The action of compensating, or condition of being compensated".

And while it is dangerous to chase meanings through a dictionary the verb "compensate" in the OED means "To counterbalance, make up for, make amends for." e.g. an insurance payment for victim compensation. So I hope that you can see that using a dialect word in this context is confusing for those who speak a different dialect.

Why use "compensation" which in this usage is US specific, when there are words which carry the same meaning in all major dialects of English eg "remuneration", or under KISS "payment"?

  1. «Ése es nuestro compromiso» should read «Ese es nuestro compromiso», as accents in those pronouns are deprecated since 2010, and in coherence with wmf:Visión_(es) (shouldn't the translations of the vision for these pages be copied or, better, transcluded from the vision pages for all the languages?).
  2. «es una organización de sin ánimo de lucro» should read «es una organización sin ánimo de lucro»; the «de» is obviously out of place there (Siestecita warned about this one in #wikipedia-es IRC channel).

The form they suggest to use answers that only the owner of the web site can use it, that is the WMF. Oliv0 (talk) 07:43, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

It would be helpful to amend "Harassment includes but is not limited to offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, physical appearance, race, ethnicity, political affiliation, or religion." to add "age". Perhaps also "sex" after "gender". Mattflaschen-WMF (talk) 04:54, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

I added "age" in this edit. Given that we already include "gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression," adding "sex" seems like overkill to me. I'd actually prefer if we could find a way to condense the wording. What about replacing "gender identity or expression" with "sex" since we already include sexual orientation and gender? --MZMcBride (talk) 05:07, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

The page contains two language links to "norsk bokmål" (Norwegian; one form of the two written forms of Norwegian). They both go to the same page. I'm guessing one of those two should be deleted. /15-08-09 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.209.133.24 (talk) 02:09, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

It could be a bit complicated to fix in a good way. no is Norwegian in general which has two written variants nb and nn. nb is more common. wmf:Tax Deductibility/nb redirects to wmf:Tax Deductibility/no. The redirect may help readers who manually write /nb in the url or search box. The language links are made automatically by wmf:Template:Languages which checks for existence of each language (view source), but the used function #ifexist in wmf:Template:Languages/Lang cannot see whether it's just a redirect. It sees there is both something at /nb and /no, and makes a language link for both. /no pages are apparently assumed to be written in the nb variant norsk bokmål. {{#language:no}} produces: norsk. {{#language:nb}} produces: norsk bokmål. {{#language:nn}} produces: norsk nynorsk. In attempting to donate I note that 'Russia' is missing from the 'Europe' and the 'Asia' lists. And no rouble option either..though it be rubble at the moment.

I also have a suggestion that you create an 'opt for English' on any non-English-speaking-country page as I do not read or really understand Russian..though I am learning right now. And although I could cope with being mocked..as I've been here long enough to be fluent, there must be other people in my position who teach English, as I do, and who are not fluent enough to fill all the data in in their 2nd language.

Regarding wikimediafoundation.org

I was seriously wanting to donate and was entering my credit card information when I saw the following and quickly backed out. If they really want donations, they need to respect the privacy of donors.

I am looking for a rather remarkable person, living in the area of Tokyo, and named Yasuo Satomi. I believe he is about my age - cca 80 years, and has been active in the environment of design for at least 50 years (like myself). Maaany years ago I had his postal address, but it seems not to be valid anymore. At this point I can not judge whether this - or what it will lead to, would justify any account//login. However it is my conviction that we both - individually or mutually, would be able to contribute to several points in your register. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 2.108.9.218 (talk) 13:16, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

I have tried but I have not been able to edit and adjust the name of my aunt, on the main title where her name appears misspelled. That is: her name is spelled with an "y", instead of "í". The correct form is "Lygia", not "Lígia". I know this for a fact, for I am a close relative and know, as well, that this is an important matter for her, who, by the way, is completing 96 years of age, today (I have just spoken with her, congratulating her for her birthday - which she does not like, for her mother deseased on this same day, when she was already in an advanced age). So, please, do adjust her name, on the main section of her page. Any question, please call me: Guilherme Lessa Bastos (mobile phone no.: [+55-21] 9.9992-8217) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 187.16.117.218 (talk) 13:55, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

wikimediafoundation.org

Of course, bad things happen because, unfortunately, we live in a world where some people try to get away with imposing their will for purely commercial purposes but you have to admit that this only happens in, perhaps, 2 or 3 percent of the articles. However, it is imperative to be vigilant because that cheating can cause great damage to peoples' reputations and even to their lives. this article on the Baptist church is lovely. I would love to visit it.

You must receive much criticism but often praise is the best criticism. It is so important to keep watch since vested interests try to take over innocent articles which should benefit children and be a good influence on them. That is what you do and I thank you. On your site, (under the subject: "plein air painting"), I had hoped to add a bit of history, how the words "en plein air" had NOT been used in the USA since the 1920s. It is now (2015)in almost every city in the USA...due to the 22 annual advertisements that I set up for the first group: Plein Air Painters of America (PAPA), from 1987>1994. Few places have any of this data, or knowledge of how it was re-introduced in the USA! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bbillups (talk) 20:16, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

Please add a link to https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/User:Milimetric_(WMF) to the {{staff member}} box for Dan Andreescu. I think just

should do it. Thanks!

User:ALantz (WMF) seems to have done it here. For future reference, that page is protected to even further shrink the population of potential editors. Killiondude (talk) 00:18, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

Regarding Accueil, dead links.

Links for the nine projects do not function. I suppose "subst:SUBPAGENAME" (that I find in the code of the page, on my side, in the browser) should be resolved before going on line. It doesn’t seem to make sense in a http request. --Dominique Meeùs (talk) 10:57, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

Right, wmf:Accueil transcludes wmf:Template:OurProjects/fr which works on the template page but breaks when it's transcluded. A search [2] shows this error exists in several languages. There are currently ten search hits. Some of them are not used but others cause errors, for example on these home pages for languages: wmf:首页, wmf:Κύρια Σελίδα, wmf:Приёмная, wmf:Hoofdpagina, wmf:Portada galega. The errors have been there since edits like [3] to the templates 20 February 2013. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:32, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
Okay, I believe I've fixed all these dead links. However the translated home pages still need a lot of updating. Peter Coombe (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 16:59, 9 November 2015 (UTC)

— The preceding unsigned comment was added by 109.218.54.60 (talk) 18:12, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Regarding wikimediafoundation.org

Every time (or almost every time) Wiki asks for money I'm inclined to donate a small amount say $3 but I'm unable since I'm homeless and I'm not rich. I think I did try at one stage to make a donation via cheque or money order but but it somehow did not happen may be because I was told there would be complications because I'm sending Australian money to a different country. Just letting you know I wish I could support wiki but only in a small way, $3 a mere trifle. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 59.100.237.26 (talk) 10:38, 19 November 2015 (UTC)

That's okay, of course we know that not everyone can afford to donate. Thank you so much for thinking of us all the same.
You might also like to know that a monetary donation is not the only way to support Wikipedia. Wikipedia is a wiki, which means that everyone can edit pages and contribute their knowledge. For more information see the Introduction and Tutorial. Peter Coombe (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 18:31, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

Regarding wikimediafoundation.org

Dear Wiki, I get that when someone famous dies or when a valiant steed dies, that you would post it in the honor of that person. But, why would you honor terrorists?! That is an insult to those who lost their lives of those beasts. It should be that those who died at the hands of those terrorists should be named here instead.

Wikipedia is a global project managed by tens of thousands of volunteers from around the world. Many people do not know this, but the Wikimedia Foundation does not control or edit the content of Wikipedia. There is no central editorial board; all edits are made by individual volunteer members of the Wikipedia community
Wikipedia volunteers are strongly focused on the editorial values of non-censorship, neutrality, verifiability, and what we term 'no original research.' Volunteers come from virtually all walks of life and reflect a vast number of viewpoints. All volunteers invested in the quality of Wikipedia are working collectively to build balanced, neutral articles that reflect a variety of perspectives on often complex, high-profile topics. You too can contribute to this process, by editing the articles directly or by participating in an article's talk or discussion page.

    Regarding Talk:FAQ/en

The German version of the FAQ https://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/FAQ/de contains much more information than the English version. Could that content not be included in the English version as well? It's useful, and gives donors a better idea what happens with their money. --Andreas JN466 14:08, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

Note though that the German FAQ is more than two years out of date! It describes 2013/2014 as the current year, and still references documents from 2011/2012 rather than their more recent equivalents. This is a live page, linked from the German "Donate now" page. Andreas JN466 14:24, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
@Jayen466: I have now updated most of the FAQ translations to link to the latest documents. As Maggie said over at Fundraising/2015-16 Fundraising ideas, we are hoping to get a new FAQ page soon. Peter Coombe (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 17:18, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, Peter. The German page however, as of this writing, still links to documents from a few years ago, including, just based on a quick scan, the 2011/2012 annual report (in this section) and the 2012/2013 annual plan (in this section). --Andreas JN466 17:03, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for the eagle eyes. These should also be fixed now. Peter Coombe (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 11:10, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
Pleasure, and thanks for the fixes, Peter. There's one sentence in the German, in this section, that's ungrammatical: "Der 2015-16er Plan für postuliert Einnahmen von USD 68,2 Millionen." (The words literally mean, "The 2015-2016 plan for postulates revenue of $68.2 million"). To fix, just delete the word "für" ("for"). Also, the plan actually aims for $73.2 million rather than $68.2 million, as the $68.2 million target doesn't include the $5 million for the endowment (see footnote 5 in the annual plan). To my mind, it would make sense to use the higher figure ("USD 73,2 Millionen"). Good luck with all your work in the run-up to the fundraiser. Andreas JN466 13:26, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Why I will never again contribute to Wikipedia

A while ago, perhaps some months, I read something by Wikipedia taking about their new policies regarding transgendered people or I'm not sure, maybe it was the broaderLGBT community. The letter said Wikipedia would give special consideration to try to promote people in that community. When I read that, I decided never to contribute again. Organizations should never brag they will discriminate against me (straight) and then ask me for money. Forget it. In fact, stuff it. -Harry Mason Florida —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.89.18.236 (talk) 23:27, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

    Regarding wikimediafoundation.org DONATIONS

Hi, I noticed your request for donations and wanted to let you know that I won't donate anything until your moderators allow people to publish genuine and unique content for mature and widely used software.

I produce a free plugin for Arduino used by thousands of people, provide a forum for support and professional documentation. Have I been allowed to create a page on wikimedia? NO, because someone unconnected to me needs to create the page.

Huh! So if I pay someone to create the page for me that's fine but then I shall need to charge for the product. Come on wikimedia! This means that whenever I read any article on your site I wonder which well funded spamming organization has been allowed to create an article.

I am not a spammer and I have proven many times to your moderators that my product is unique and professionally delivered to a wide audience. So what else is missing from this overly censored site? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 62.49.206.42 (talk) 14:29, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia offers all of us one of the greatest online resources - immediately available - to reference, to quote, to search, to enhance our own "knowledge base", that can be accessed online.

    wikimediafoundation.org--suggestion about donation process

I just donated to Wikimedia / Wikipedia. At the end of the donation process, I completed the survey. A couple sections of the survey asked for feedback. In one section I did not have a suggestion, but now I have thought of one. I have always been curious about the average donation for various organizations that provide a service to me. The average was provided. It would also be interesting to know and help gauge my donation level if I knew the average donation relative to income range, and maybe relative to estimated usage. It would be nice if public radio and public television would do this too.

Thanks for keeping this amazing enterprise going.

    Regarding wikimediafoundation.org

    Hi Wikepedia,

I would be happy to donate to your public service foundation if you truly were independent and unbiased. Unfortunately, you are neither. You routinely label any information which is remotely conservative as being suspect, using terms such as controversial, right-wing, conspiratorial, etc. But you do not do that for any item which has a more liberal perspective, instead, you treat those as mainstream and the norm (since obviously they agree with your perspective.). So until you decide to be a professional and truly informational site, devoid of emotional additives and letting each subject item speak for itself (so readers can decide for themselves) I cannot contribute to a biased website that openly discriminates toward politically incorrect positions. Wikipedia is simply another mainstream media mouthpiece. I hope this will improve as time goes on, in which case I would be able to contribute in the future. Thank you! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 2601:240:4500:6da2:7138:14ad:3941:a3b4 (talk) 17:54, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
