WIKIPEDIA ASIAN MONTH
In November 2015, Wikimedia Community around world collaborated in Wikipedia Asian Month edit-a-thon to write articles about Asian countries. Nine Wikipedia communities from ESEA organized the event, which achieved an amazing accomplishment in the span of 30 days. As the result, 1,286 editors created or largely expanded 4,310 articles in 41 language versions of Wikipedia, or 36 million bytes. Spanish Wikipedian named Rauletemunoz edited 103 articles, the highest number of contribution during the event. Small token of appreciation in the form of postcards are sent from ESEA countries for those who successfully write at least 5 articles. Since one of our major goals of Wikipedia Asian Month is helping smaller communities to grow therefore we are planning to get more languages involved, especially the minority or indigenous languages. Wikipedia Asian Month is planned to be held annually every November. Any ideas or suggestion are warmly welcome on our talk page, or for more information please contact Addis Wang (WMCN). WIKIMEDIA INDONESIA
In May to July 2015, Wikimedia Indonesia and Museum Tamansiswa Dewantara Kirti Griya in Yogyakarta, supported by Ford Foundation Indonesia collaborated to digitize old Javanese manuscripts from the museum's collection. This project was initiated by Christopher Allen Woodrich who is a member of WMID, a long time Wikipedian and contributor to Commons. Tamansiswa Museum was responsible to scan the precious collection, mostly dating back to the 1800s. Afterwards, Chris edited the scanned images and upload them to Wikimedia Commons (for copyright-free collections that is in public domain), English Wikipedia (public domain in US), and WMID's subsciption-only digital library "Bebaskan Pengetahuan" (copyrighted). One hundred books have been digitalized and can be accessed by scholars, researchers, and general public. In December 2015, we held small celebration of the succesful project. We also discussed the continuation in the future for thousand others collection of Museum Tamansiswa collections, including mails of Ki Hadjar Dewantara who was a pioneer of education in Indonesia during colonial times.

WIKIMEDIA PHILIPPINES
Wikimedia Philippines is proud to announce the launch of a new project: the Encyclopedia of Philippine Heritage (EPH)! It will be the second phase of the chapter’s successful Cultural Heritage Mapping Project in 2014 and 2015 which will focus on the creation and curation of new information and content pertaining to Philippine cultural heritage on Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata, including the country’s rich variety of heritage sites both natural and man-made. With nearly 800 articles improved over the last two years, the project hopes to continue the very important job of documenting the Philippines’ history before it is lost to time. Launched during Wikipedia Day, January 15th, at the Press Café in San Juan City, Metro Manila, fourteen volunteers from the CHMP will be joining the EPH to help us on this important mission, led by WMPH Chairman (and CHMP project lead) Eugene Villar. The Encyclopedia of Philippine Heritage though can use all the help it can get to get it off the ground! Stay tuned for how you can join the project and help immortalize the richness of Philippine history on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. WIKIMEDIA TAIWAN
Hsinchu is a city known for its high-tech industry. World-leading computer brands such as Apple Inc. and Acer all use components designed in Hsinchu Science Park located in the city. To nurture tech and engineering talents, there are several prestigious universities around the area, including National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) among others. The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature at NCTU is the latest educational partner of Spoken Wikipedia project. In this project, 10 freshmen from the department recorded Featured Articles of Wikipedia, and uploaded the sound files onto Wiki Commons to benefit visually impaired readers of Wikipedia. In the past fifteen years, Chinese Wikipedia has only 44 spoken articles, but within the last 3 months, the students had completed the recording and uploading of 46 articles. Right now, the team led by Dr. Yuwen Lai, the professor who initiated this collaborative project, is also advising a graduate student from Indonesia to follow the same recording protocol for Spoken Wikipedia project in Bahasa Indonesia. |
