Tool to replace author name string (P2093) with author (P50)

  • Problem: Manually replacing author name string (P2093) with author (P50) is time consuming, and risks loosing metadata
  • Proposed solution: A tool (gadget?) to replace author name string (P2093) with author (P50) given the QID of the author.
  • Who would benefit: Wikidata editors and data re-users

  • It seems like Author Disambiguator. --Epìdosis 14:29, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
    • No that tool's method is orthogonal to this wish, Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:40, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
      • @Pigsonthewing: Can you explain what you mean here? The issue is starting from a person (given QID) rather than from a name string? Author disambiguator already has an author page, it would be straightforward I think to create a link from that page to the name-matching page with variations on the author name; but I'm not sure that's what you're asking for here??? • It's not what I'm asking for. Did you see the example edit, above? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:02, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
          • The sample edit doesn't describe how you would get to that point. I guess you're envisioning a place to click on the item page for the scholarly article next to each P2093 value where you could paste in a QID for the replacement author? ArthurPSmith (talk) 17:58, 28 January 2022 (UTC)
  • Generally speaking it sounds like this should be a feature of the software ·addshore· talk to me! 23:12, 4 February 2022 (UTC)
