More keyboard shortcuts when editing -- for faster work
Problem: We could edit faster with more keyboard shortcuts. That's especially true for items that require multiple clicks to pull up in the VisualEditor, especially adding a Template or adding special characters or the References section on the bottom. For comparison, we can already add a citation with Ctrl+Shift+K
Proposed solution: More shortcuts like Ctrl+Shift+K for items in the VisualEditor or code editor menus. Stretch solution #1: make those shortcuts customizable (like this); Stretch solution #2: assign keyboard shortcuts for inserting specific special characters, e.g., „these open-close quotes“
Who would benefit: Frequent editors and new editors who are used to shortcuts in their other authoring tools (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and thus would decrease the risk of dropping off as Wikipedia editors
Keyboard shortcuts that don't conflict with the OS/browser, and that work on all keyboard layouts, are hard to come by. Searching for shortcuts may be helpful too: T66905ESanders (WMF) (talk) 23:12, 25 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Support This is also an accessibility feature. E.g a missing shortcut for inserting the current date into date fields effectively prevents me from contributing more to Wikidata. Trilemma2 (talk) 14:10, 29 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Support: if the issue is a lack of shortcuts that don't conflict with a user's device or browser, then making additional shortcuts customisable and opt-in would solve the problem. — Bilorv (talk) 11:05, 6 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Support Many shortcuts conflict with user's device/browser. Customization [of all] would be beneficial — DaxServer (t · c) 12:02, 6 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
