In 2018 we had the CentralNotice for WLE only for the first half of the month, because in the second half it was dedicated to a fundraising campaign of Wikimedia Italy. That created an unequal treatment with the other national contests, with reflections on visits and number of uploaded images. For 2019 we request the CentralNotice for WLE for the whole month, as it happens for the other national editions of WLE. --CristianNX (talk) 15:07, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@CristianNX: WLE has a two month window that campaigns can run so why not bring the italian alps WLE earlier by two weeks? The tax campaign is tied a deadline and is not very flexible. That would be the best outcome for everyone. Seddon (WMF) (talk) 08:55, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Seddon (WMF): the national tax campaign of WMIT move from Central- to Site Notice and interest a lot of periods, that are not predictable for non members of the chapter. In this situation is hard to organize or to communicate something about the next edition. With this request we want only to know if it's possible to "book" the CentralNotice for the WLE campaign, as happens for the other national editions. --CristianNX (talk) 14:45, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@CristianNX: Yes it is possible to book. I will help coordinate timing with WMIT :) Seddon (WMF) (talk) 15:29, 9 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi everyone,
as planned and anticipated, the problem of overlapping CentralNotice messages in Italy between WLE and WMIT has happened:

In mid-March we had an email exchange with the WMIT president (User:Laurentius), but the exchange stopped and we didn't reach a solution. As consequence, we wrote to the international coordinator of WLE (User:AntonProtsiuk (WMUA)), and now it's time to solve the question, because only one month is left in June.

Our observations / premises / requests:

  1. not having the CentralNotice in the second half of June is very limiting in terms of visits and therefore of images uploaded (as you know, the last two days are those that see a substantial increase in uploads);
  2. we want to have the same visibility as all other WLE national contests: in 2018 we were the only ones unable to count on the CentralNotice for the entire month;
  3. we want to have the same visibility as WLM in Italy, organized by WMIT during the month of September, that have the CentralNotice for the entire month;
  4. the WMIT "fundraising" campaign last months, and the second half of June isn't fundamental for the results of their campaign (for example, during the protest for the Turkish situation, WMIT SiteNotice was suspended from the community and they equally increased the sum of collected money);
  5. due to our communication and time needed to finish the lists (this year we upgrade from the Alpine area to the whole country) we can't anticipate our contest in another period.

For these reasons we ask to have the CentralNotice dedicated to WLE Italy for the entire month of June, as every other WLE national contest.

I am not sure that we can decide something here. Maybe Seddon (WMF) can help? Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 18:16, 29 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@CristianNX: - The solution is precisely what I suggested over 6 months ago which is where the WLE competition in Italy runs from Mid-May to Mid-June. WLE operates with a two month window. 17 countries run through the month of May. 3 countries use the exact timing I proposed. 12 countries run through June. You've known that the 5x1000 CN campaign was going to run at the end of June for 6 months and you should have known that WLE runs for a two month window. You haven't reached out to myself at all to assist in this throughout that period. Seddon (WMF) (talk) 11:42, 30 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Seddon (WMF): There's no need to be so aggressive, really. "The tax campaign is tied a deadline", as a matter of fact tax deadlines change every year and are communicated around february/march or even later, this is usually the time when the CN request for the campaign is created. There is no evidence that the last two weeks of June are so vital for a tax campaign which lasts for months so we could also turn your message in "They've known that WLE was going to run in June for more then 6 months and they know they have a (at least) four months window for their campaign" ;-)
Besides, as volunteer I would like to organize activities and contest and whatever when I know that I have enough time to do it at my best and not based on some variable fiscal deadlines...
Our goal is to attract some sponsors in order to stop asking WMF for grants for the prices and to cover the costs of other possible ways to communicate the contest like an exhibition, more effective use of social media and so on, and the only thing we can "show" to a possible sponsor is number of visits on the dedicated site. But all right, let's do whithout CN for half of the contest. Even if we decide to move WLE 2020 to May if the deadlines change again it could be that next year we will be here again with the same discussion, basically there's no definitive solution. --Civvì (talk) 18:20, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
