Event dedicated to the 120th anniversary of Ara Sargsyan edit

A ten-day edit-a-thon dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the great Armenian sculptor Ara Sargsyan was initiated on Armenian Wikipedia from March 25 to April 5. All Wikiclubs of Wikimedia Armenia took part in the edit-a-thon.

On April 9, a special event dedicated to the 120th anniversary of Ara Sargsyan was organized at the Ara Sargsyan and Hakob Kojoyan House-Museum. At the beginning of the event, a choir performed after which the results of the edit-a-thon were summarized and certificates and relief-souvenirs of Ara Sargsyan were awarded to all participating Wikiclubs and club members who were present at the event.

Financial-Economic Bimonthly Competition edit

 

Wikimedia Armenia along with the Central Bank of Armenia has launched the “Financial-economic bimonthly project” from April 2022.

The aim of this project is to improve financial-economic content on the Armenian Wikipedia, to ensure the high quality of this topic by involving specialists of these fields into the project.

The project consists of two stages: short Wikipedia training for the newcomers, and the main competition. The Wikipedia Training started on April 4 and lasted until 15 of April. The competition started on April 15 and will last until 15 of June.

The total number of people registered for the Financial-economic bimonthly project is 94, out of which 70 confirmed their participation. It is vital to mention that 45 out of 70 participants are newcomers. The newcomers were divided into groups, each group had a wiki trainer assigned to them.

Starting from April 30 - the beginning of the main competition - the total number of active participants in the project is 10. About 45 articles have been created with the size of 690,195 bytes.

Yerevan State Medical University students' visit to Wikimedia Armenia edit

The medical students, who are active on the Armenian Wikipedia keep on improving medical articles and creating medical content.

Wikimedia Armenia has launched a new project on the development of medical topics on Armenian Wikipedia. The project is led by doctor-wiki editor Arshak Shahinyan. From now on, every Saturday medical students from Yerevan State Medical University will visit the office of Wikimedia Armenia to learn editing Wikipedia and to improve or create medical articles.

On April 30, 2022, the first Saturday workshop was organized and held for third-year students. Five pharmacology students created their accounts and started their first steps of editing Wikipedia with the help of their lecturer Arshak.

At the end of the day, after hard work, the participants had already selected articles, started editing, and even some of them managed to create and publish articles on pharmacology.

WikiClubs' report edit

In April, the Wikiclubs continued their work by organizing intra-club events, as well as participating in other events organized on Armenian Wikipedia.

Lernapat Wikiclub, in collaboration with Lernapat Secondary School, has improved the “Function (mathematics)” article on Armenian Wikipedia. After that the students have introduced the material they learned from the article during the math class. April 22 is the Earth Day, during which sixth-graders created an article about “Plastic Pollution” and presented it during the geography class.

Alaverdi Wikiclub has launched a new project, "My Best Article", which aims to draw the attention of club members to the articles they have created. Within the framework of the project, the authors of the best articles of each month present their selected articles in their preferred format, substantiating their usefulness. A book discussion was held on the eve of the 107th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The club members analyzed the story "Shushan", which tells the story of a family that survived the genocide. Mariam, one of the club members, teaches Armenian to foreigners. She invited her student Sesil from London, who was in Lori within a framework of a program, to their Wikiclub. He was joined by Theodore from the United States and Pelin from Istanbul. During the meeting that lasted for about two hours, the guests were introduced to the Wikiclub's activities, programs and dreams. Sesil taught the club members Persian phrases, and the club members edited them on Wikipedia.

The Stepanakert Wikiclub, continuing its attempts at self-expression through art, participated in art therapy organized by the Shushi Museum of Fine Arts in April. At first they got acquainted with fine arts, its genres and branches, then they were introduced to the activities of the famous French painter, post-impressionist Henri Matisse. The Wikiclub members improved the article about Henri Matisse. Since 2010, April 23 is celebrated as English Day by the United Nations. Wikiclub members spoke only English that day. At the end of the day, the club members watched the fairy tale based on Shakespeare's tragedy "Macbeth", discussed the moral lesson of the latter, analyzed the characters, shared their opinions.

In total, the Wikiclubs had 119 active participants this month and more than 5 new members.
