Wikimedia Armenia's visit to schools edit

After the visit to different educational institutions during EduWiki Week, some other schools expressed their interest in welcoming the representatives of Wikimedia Armenia to their institutions. As a result, two visits were organized to N65 high school and N12 basic school. The purpose of these two visits was to introduce the students, as well as the teachers, to Wikipedia, Wikimedia Armenia’s activities, and the educational opportunities created by Wikipedia.

In N65 high school, the English teacher organized an open class for her freshmen students. The students prepared a presentation on Wikipedia, its sister projects, and the activities of Wikimedia Armenia; they presented everything in English. After this interesting presentation, the representatives of Wikimedia Armenia introduced the opportunities that Wikipedia offers, what educational projects Wikimedia Armenia carries out, and how the students can use Wikipedia in their educational process. During the Q&A session the students, as well as their teachers, asked questions about the trustworthiness of sources and copyright. We also prepared a practical part where we presented how those interested can register on Wikipedia and how they can make their first moves there.

The second visit was organized in the N12 basic school. Around 40 students from different classes gathered at the assembly hall to get acquainted with Wikipedia and its opportunities. As in the case of N65 school, here as well we presented Wikipedia and the educational projects of Wikimedia Armenia. Considering the age of the participants, the students were more interested in Wikicamps.

All in all such visits will be continuous considering the interest from schools and the need to integrate more new editors and introduce the Wikimedia movement to more people.
