WikiStories (new project proposal)
The project is made so people can write stories anyone can freely edit. This is made because I personally think that it's important to be able to build off other peoples work.

The logo should be a book with editors notes and corrections everywhere (in red, to distinguish it from the rest of the words). The notes and corrections symbolize the fact that anyone can edit it and the book is a metaphor for the stories in the wiki.

Reason | out of WM scope, clear opposition consensus |
Details of the proposal
Project description | A Wiki where people can freely make and edit stories. |
Is it a multilingual wiki? | The Wiki will have separate languages. Any edit in one Wiki will automatically edit every other language version. |
Potential number of languages | The Wiki will have multiple languages. |
Proposed URL | https://wikistories.org/ |
Technical requirements
New features to require | I don't actually know if there are extensions needed. The idea should preferably be modified to not require extensions, if the original conception does require extensions. If this is not possible, try to minimize the number of extensions required. |
Development wiki | Not yet. |

editAlternative names
editI would have called it WikiBooks, except that that's already a thing. Perhaps WikiFiction, or FictionWiki, or StoryWiki. There are many other better names that I probably have never heard of.
Related projects/proposals
editMaybe WikiBooks, though I don't know much about it. It's supposed to be a library but I don't know if it only allows existing stories.
Domain names

edit- How exactly does this help fulfill the WMF's goal of providing free knowledge? Educational books can already be published on Wikibooks. ~~~~
User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 16:18, 1 March 2022 (UTC)- Strong support I saw how the other wikis are non-fiction things that anyone can edit. I think it's time that there is one for fiction. Free knowledge has already been provided by Wikipedia, Wiktionary etc., so anything else that is there solely to provide knowledge will duplicate the scope of existing wikis. I think that WMF should expand their purpose and goals a bit. Username142857 (talk) 07:50, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
- As I've said multiple times before, the best place to create all these ideas is on Fandom. Although many of these ideas are cool, they do not serve the purpose of furthering free knowledge. Also, the WMF won't change its scope just to fit your ideas in. Sorry. 2601:647:5800:1A1F:CFD:F514:CDE6:9187 23:47, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
- Strong support The WMF SHOULD change its scope to fit this project in! Username142857 (talk) 08:01, 9 March 2022 (UTC)

- Oppose While a cool idea, it's not one that fits at WMF. I think WMF's scope is already massive enough, and would be opposed to expanding it to cover this sort of thing. Supertrinko (talk) 01:29, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
- Expanding the scope from 'non-fiction things anyone can edit' to 'things anyone can edit' seems very natural to me. Username142857 (talk) 07:11, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose because it is not under the WMF scope, and Comment: In the Is it a multilingual wiki? part is states that The Wiki will have separate languages. Any edit in one Wiki will automatically edit every other language version. How will this work? Automatic translators such as Google Translate or DeepL are not sufficiently good enough to do this. --QuickQuokka [talk • contribs] 19:35, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
- Use automatic translators, and notify interpreters to fix any errors. An interpreter will be someone who has passed a test that anyone can request, proving that they're fluent in multiple languages. The person must have already placed the times when they're available on their talk page. The interpreters who are notified are determined by an algorithm to make sure that said interpreters cover every language and will change depending on time of day and a random variable, to avoid everyone available getting notified about every minor typo fix which will annoy them, and to avoid interpreters being notified when they're unavailable. - Strong oppose. Not under the WMF scope. Non-viable project. Fiction inherently lacks a policy framework to distinguish proper edits from improper edits. No viable basis for dispute resolution between editors who disagree on preferred fictional narrative. And a minor footnote, the suggestion of automatic cross-language translation is not a technologically credible option, not now and not in the foreseeable future. Alsee (talk) 12:09, 24 March 2022 (UTC)
- We can split it into two different stories when that happens (unless it's a syntax or grammatical error; then the grammatically correct version will be chosen) Username142857 (talk) 08:42, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
- Oh, and spelling error fixing and removing sections inconsistent with the rest of the story will also be exceptions to story-splitting. Also, if there is a dispute with American English vs British English, the version before the edit war will be the default spelling. Username142857 (talk) 08:51, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

- Oppose The proposed project does not fit a wiki environment. Writing fiction is an inherently personal process and does not suit community editing, when writing a story I don't think that most people would want other people to be able to come along and change characters/plot points/setting etc. Fixing grammar and syntax is a job for a copy editor, it doesn't require a wiki. I don't think the proposed solution of forking content in response to disputes is viable - you would just end up with dozens and dozens of duplicate pages, and there is no way of resolving these disputes that wouldn't just devolve into some kind of popularity contest. The "automated translation" proposal is not viable - there's a reason that commercial publishers still use manual translation. How is automated translation software supposed to deal with things like metaphors or fictional names? Finally, as mentioned above, this is not under the WMF scope. 192.76.8.70 11:45, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose We already have Wikisource for this purpose. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 01:30, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose This is certainly an interesting idea but sadly it's simply outside the scope of WMF projects. It's not free knowledge if it's a collection of fiction. Rubbish computer Ping me or leave a message on my talk page 11:12, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
