The Tree of Life wikiproject, focusing on all organisms on the planet, continues to be the largest of all Wikipedia projects. It has contributors and content in many languages, and many thousands of articles to its name.

Which special meaning does content have in this context?

Since you don't have a page I will answer here: content is in the meaning of something with substance. In German we say "Inhalt". It's the generic term used collectively to mean: texts, pictures, videos, whatever. --WiseWoman 10:41, 24 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Yes, I know this meaning. But "Inhalt in vielen Sprachen" sounds awkward. Therefore I thought it could have a special meaning. Thank you.

Hello, I moved [[Benutzer:WiseWoman]] to [[User:WiseWoman]], since here on meta we have no "Benutzer"-namespace. But you can move it again, if you want. Never Fear, The Women are Here!

Hi WiseWoman. Just wanted to drop a line and say that I've had the same challenge in finding women in the wikiworld. As an athlete, I'm working on representation of women in the sports articles on Wikipedia. I've also expanded some of the articles on women in opera, especially mezzo-soprano voices (lowest women's voice). I'd like to work on tools and community building that will make it easier for women to connect and collaborate on Wikimedia/pedia. I'd love to hear back from you... and other like-minded women. Wikiversity Proposal Tasks and Schedule

Hi Wisewoman,

I have asked Cormaggio specifically when the Wikiversity proposal is going to be submitted to the Board for authorization to proceed with permanent dedicated URLs and wiki space. I get nothing back but vague generalities. Mr. Wales has indicated on the public Foundation mailing list in response to queries that to the best of his knowledge Wikiversity (within some appropriate initial scope) has overwhelming support from every single Board Member. The only holdup on its approval and activation is the complete lack of any information from the Wikiversity community/proponents in response to the Board's fairly minor inquiries. In view of this information do you have a feel for what specific tasks need to be completed and when they be finished? Is this a manpower issue or coordination issue between the appointed members of the activation committee? Is it a matter of final technical editing of wording such that a majority of the five acting committee members agree it is ready to go? I, and possibly others, would appreciate some specific information if it is available on how we can proceed immediately as there has been no visible action for months in the public space. It was my understanding that the activation committee was charged with getting Wikiversity started (specifically getting Board approval for Wikimedia Foundation administrators to setup the initial wiki) not designing the entire Wikiversity from scratch. It seemed applicable that Jimmy Wales, the Director of the Wikimedia Foundation Board has stated publicly that the Foundation is waiting only for communication from Wikiversity proponents to initiate the Wikiversity proposal at the domain they already own. 68.238.140.45 07:36, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

I downloaded the presentation - it's a good intoduction - I like it :-). However, I wasn't able to see how it fit in with the Moodle space on your site - I had to log in as a guest, and it just downloded the presentation and left me with a blank screen - not sure if that's what's meant to happen or what.

This is a browser thing - it opens a window in order to open the file, which should have showed up in your PowerPoint-Equivalent-Program. The parent window remains blank. I can change this if you want. --WiseWoman 15:12, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Just a question - what's the "problem' with "webspace" - simply that we don't have it yet? And accreditation - how is this still a problem?Sorry - I know these are possibly stupid questions - but it's always tantalising to think what exactly the presentation was about when you only have a powerpoint presentation (another reinforcement of the fact that materials alone do not equate with education).

Right - we don't have we don't have webspace yet. Accreditation is just not feasable, trust me on this one. We would need a curriculum and defined teachers with verified credentials and processes for granting grades and diplomas and all sorts of other stuff. I do not see this happening before I retire. However, an accredited institution like mine can use the material and *we* grant the credits for the course.

Learning Objects

Sure - I think that "Learning Objects" are vaporware. This is a figment of many computer science types imagination, because they do not understand didaktics or instruction. They think that "consuming" "learning objects" = content is all that needs to happen for people to learn. I beg to differ - the most important thing about learning is the communication between student and teacher or between students. Collaboration is important, cooperation too. If we do not discuss, we do not learn, even if we are just discussing with our own selves by talking aloud. The notion of "hierarchies" of "learning objects" dissolve me in laughter. It is pseudoscience at its best.

Learning Languages

People like me spend a lot of time and money trying to learn languages. Having an e-course available for this purpose would, in my mind, promote the bringing of cultures together, much as the wiki community does with other information. Language is one of the key barriers to the sharing of information, and it is my hope that at some point, a wiki-based e-learning approach to language would mature within this community.

It says right there: this is the logo of the ESF. If you refer to something that they fund, you *must* use their Logo. Apparently, as with most of the useful content I had contributed to the Wikiversity, whatever this was linked to has been removed. Wikiversity wants nothing to do with real science, it seems, just with courses about learning to tie one's shoelaces and the autor's perception of what science is, so they can run around and call themselves professor at the Wikiversity. Disgusting.
