Wikimedia in TurkeyEdit

Vito,

I hope you are well! My name is Tyler Thornton, and I am a member of the team from the Bridgespan Group that is working with the Wikimedia Foundation on its strategic planning process. Our team is really interested in learning more about the Wikimedia community in Turkey, and Philippe Beaudette said you would be a great person to speak with. Would you be willing to answer a few questions(or recommend others it might be good for me to try to connect with)? We could set up a phone or skype call, or I could send you some starter questions over email - whatever you think would be easiest!

You can email me at tyler.thornton@bridespan.org or find me on the Strategy Wiki.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Tyler

Translate some names for hundreds software projects including MediaWikiEdit

Hello, I'm writing you because you subscribed to a Language support team. As you know, Wikimedia projects exist in almost 300 languages; supporting them all is a big effort so we partner with other organisations. One small but visible thing we miss is that many interwiki links in sidebar (among others) don't offer a translation of the language name when hovered. We're now able to translate 100 more language names in your language.

If you're interested, I can create you an account to submit translations on the CLDR web tool (within June 14): please send an email to ask one and I'll follow up with instructions. On CLDR you can translate and tweak many other things, if you desire; your work will impact hundreds of software projects. Thanks, Nemo 17:58, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Unblock requestEdit

Hi. A user with IP 212.156.67.30 has requested unblocking on my Meta-Wiki talk page, but says local admins refuse to unblock (due to long-term abuse?). Could you please look into this? PiRSquared17 (talk) 19:11, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

Your deletion requests on IncubatorEdit

First, thanks very much. None of the admins speak Turkish (at least at 3-level or better), and the test has no test-admins. I appreciate your finding those issues—especially the copyvios. Do feel free to stop by periodically and look in on that test!

I didn't delete two of the pages.

  • One (the page with the person's notes and links) I moved to a subpage of his user page, and made sure the link on his user page had the proper new target. That user hasn't been around in a couple of years, so it may have been for nothing. But there was no reason we couldn't retain his/her notes that way.
  • The "Afrika" page. Look, this test project has been pretty dormant for a while, but my first inclination on this page is to ask you or someone in the community to adapt what is already there before I completely delete it. Is that just a complete waste of time—better to start from scratch—or is there a chance someone would tackle it? StevenJ81 (talk) 15:56, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
@StevenJ81: Thank you for going through all this trouble and explaining your actions. I appreciate this.
The "Notes" page consisted of a subheader called "Useful links" and some links that might come in handy. Since its title was so specific, I had tagged it for deletion. A move is, of course, a great idea. Thank you for this. The user is around, he was actually my last ping before yours. :) I'll talk to him about reinvigorating the project.
As for the "Africa" page, whatever's on that page at the moment has been copied from w:tr:Afrika (the WP article includes everything that the WY article has - verbatim, that is - and much more), so we will not be losing any content with this deletion. The style is encyclopaedic, and is out of scope for WY. There is nothing do work with in the article, but let me pledge that I'll translate two good paragraphs in order to have a solid foundation to work on. A small step for me, a giant leap for our tiny project. :)
Outstanding.
I plan to start creating content steadily (albeit slowly) once I am done going through the existing material. It's always healthier to have a rock-solid foundation to build on.

Once you've been contributing steadily for a month or so—I tell everyone that so everyone gets used to the peculiarities of Incubator, most notably prefixes—make a request at I:RFTA for test-admin status. You're experienced, and it will make your life and mine easier if you have that toolkit. StevenJ81 (talk) 16:19, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
@StevenJ81: Sure, I'll consider this. Thank you.

Inspire Campaign survey on outreach to outside knowledge networksEdit

Thanks for your participation during the Inspire Campaign focused on outreach to outside knowledge networks from February 2017. I'm interested in hearing your experience during the campaign, so if you're able, I invite you to complete this brief survey to describe how you contributed to the campaign and how you felt about participating. I want to improve how campaigns are run, so let me know if there's something that could be done better for next time.

Please feel free to let me know on my talk page if you have any questions about the campaign or the survey. Thanks! I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 18:34, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

(Opt-out instructions)

Survey link error fixedEdit

@Bicyclemark:: Hey Mark, sorry about the late reply.
I've been busy working on possible ways to help remove the block, but obviously, not succeeded so far. Thank you for your kind invitation, but I'd like to remain anonymous for the time being, so I am unable to accept. However, I will ask around for any interested parties and let you know immediately if someone volunteers.
