Hi there. Please click here to leave me a message.

Go here to request cloaks, however.

  • I generally respond to messages on the talkpage of the sender, unless requested otherwise.
  • Please don't remove/revert things on here, as I like to see everything.
  • I always assume good faith, remain civil and try to be a catalyst, and I'd appreciate it if you did too.

IRC cloak requestEdit

Hi,

I am PatríciaR at pt:wp, and would like to request a cloak, "@wikipedia/PatriciaR". IRC nicks are PatriciaR and PatriciaR_. I asked User:Jdforrester but apparently this user has not edited anything here since November 5th, or on en:wp since September, so I don't know how often he checks his requests. Thank you! PatríciaR 17:40, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Oh no! Not another IRC cloak request!Edit

I am User:Strykerz on en.wiki. I watch for channel trolls and talk a lot. Can i request a cloak on the nick Strykers on #wikipedia. I'd be happy to have @wikipedia/* or @/wikijunior ...

Thanks!

Yet another IRC cloak request :-/Edit

Hi, I am User:Vic226 on en.wikipedia.org, and I would like to request an IRC cloak for my IRC nickname (same as user name in Wikipedia). I'm assuming my preference would be @wikipedia/Vic226 because most people use that. Thanks a lot in advance! Vic226 03:08, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia talk:Requests for mediation/Jews for Jesus 2Edit

Good morning (GMT time); since you are currently my only supporter for my MedCom nomination, I thought you might like to check out my case page; I accepted it 4 days ago and it looks like it's over!

Hoping you are well

RE: Your bot cloaksEdit

Hey Xyrael, thanks for your message. The master nick is SWMTBot and all are linked; the requested nick is wikimedia/Tangotango/bot/SWMTBot. As for a non-Tangotango cloak, I'm not sure what real problems there are with it. If anything goes wrong with the bots, people can go over to the Small Wiki Monitoring Team page on meta and find out which bots are owned by whom; the situation is the same as now, as I only have control over SWMTBot, and none of the other bots owned by other SWMT members. (Besides, the bots do not operate outside of the Small Wiki Monitoring Team channels). If it helps accountability, I can also make the SWMTBot code display the owner in the "description" field. If this is acceptable, my requested cloak is wikimedia/bot/SWMTBot. Thanks a lot! Cheers, Tangotango 02:40, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you very much Xyrael! :D I'll make sure the bots don't go on a flooding rampage around freenode, so don't worry :P Cheers, Tangotango 01:40, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

error in IRC cloaks requestEdit

Hello, Xyrael. I requested IRC cloaks wikipedia/hashikure at [1], but it said "Could not establish connection to MySQL server." and request was failed. And now, I can no longer access the page. Is there any problem? --端くれの錬金術師 14:24, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Today, I retried request and request is successfully entered! Sorry for spam. --端くれの錬金術師 03:34, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Xyrael
as a result of the unanimous election held on this page, you've been granted sysop status. Please list yourself in the sysop box. Thank you, M/ 15:02, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

I usually leave the voting page for allowing others to read, archiving the page is not really a priority. Ciao, M/

E-mailEdit

Hi! Do I need to create an account to e-mail you? The Communication Projects Group/announcement got my interest, but it was pretty hard to find out, that in fact an application or such should be sent to you. This is a problem (finding it hardly), wich should be healed immediately, and I can help you in that :)) I'm a future communications expert, now in 3rd grade (7th semester) at here: [2]. I think I'm pretty prepared to do minor/medium tasks or coordination things, and/or participate in some big things also (someday), or translate :) I'm Vince from Hungarian Wikipedia. - User talk:Vince, E-mail

IRC Cloak correctionEdit

Hi Xyr! Can you please change my IRC Cloac "Wikipedia/Viele-baeren" into "Wikimedia/ABF" ? An other staff told me that this is possible, but that I have to ask you for Wikimedia Cloaks. Thank you, ABF 13:22, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

IRC cloakEdit

Hello - I am en:User:Ugen64, and I filled out the IRC cloak request form, but your memo box was full so I couldn't send you the IRC memo to confirm that I own that IRC username. Anyway, I'll give you the other info anyway - if you need the memo to fulfill the request that's fine, I'll just try to send it another day.

Wiki username: ugen64
IRC nickname: ugen64
Requested cloak: wikipedia/ugen64
Diff link: [3]

Thanks - ugen64 04:45, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

IRC cloak requestEdit

Hey Sean,

I got a message that my IRC cloak was denied because the "instructions hadn't been followed". I followed all the instructions provided on your form, are there some elsewhere that I missed? Only a couple things I can think of if not...

  1. I used a user sandbox page on Wikipedia to make the diff instead of my user talk. Still with my username, still confirms identity, certainly can't imagine such a pedantic thing would've mattered!
  2. Initially, when I tried to send you the memo, it was full. However, I held off sending the form, and later in the day it went through. (Or at least MemoServ said it went through!) I only sent the form after that, so you certainly should've had the memo.

I'll be happy to resubmit, if you need, but I'm rather at a loss as to what I might've done wrong. Seraphimblade 17:32, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Note to self: all above this point dealt with.

IRC cloak requestEdit

I am Holek_ on freenode and I would like the cloak wikimedia/Holek. Thanks. You said above to go to your toolserv page, but there is a field for diff in editions on your talk page. ;) --Hołek ҉ 20:30, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

cloak request status?Edit

Hi, I requested a cloak on May 7 [4] and haven't heard anything about it since then. Is there a problem? --en:User:infoCan 16:20, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi, thank for your reply. I just did a /who on myself, and it still displays my address. Something must be wrong. Did you set the cloak for infoCan ? --en:User:infoCan 14:36, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Excuse my ignorance, I looked around but couldn't figure it out, could you point me to instructions on how to activate it? --en:User:infoCan 18:09, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Works now. Thanks! You may want to put these instructions on the page about getting a cloak. --en:User:infoCan 19:13, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Your "click here to leave me a message" has pointed at a redirect until recently - you might want to check the history (and sorry for the abbreviation i used in an edit summary, i realized later it might be mistaken as incivility) --Random832 04:23, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

IRCEdit

I would like to suggest that you deprecate (mark historical, mark rejected, whatever it is you do on meta) the guidelines as they are right now, and you actually get on IRC and get people who know the channel to help write a new guideline document. These guidelines aren't bad per se (there are one or two problems but nothing big), so normally they could be tweaked, except for the fact they have an air of illegitimacy that's going to be hard to get rid of, so 'on the ground' the good gets thrown out with the bad. And, seriously, if you're going to be our group contact, would it kill you to come on and say hi once in a while? Try being active in the channel for a while. Get a feel for it. --Random832 03:20, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Yeah... this is good advice. Why are you ignoring it, IRC contact? --W.marsh 19:42, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

FatMan IRCEdit

I am new to IRC and am having trouble with the directions for setting up a cloak (for my Wikipedia ID:"The Fat Man Who Never Came Back") My first problem is that I don't understand how to register a Nick on freenode, as described here. Where exactly do I enter commands such as "/msg nickserv register <your-password>"? I have mIRC and have just started to use it. Do I need to enter that command into a certain window, or connect to a certain channel in order to register with Freenode. Thanks for any help you are able to offer; sorry for my ignorance.--TheFatManWhoNeverCameBack 16:38, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

User:Cometstyles was able to answer all my questions. I know how have a generic cloak, but I'm still waiting for you to grant me my official Wikipedia cloak (I have filled out the form as instructed on this page[5]). Thanks.--TheFatManWhoNeverCameBack 19:58, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Another cloak reqEdit

Sorry to bug you, but I couldn't send the memo on the Freenode IRC, it said you were at the maxumum number. When you get a chance, can you cloak me? I submitted a request through your form. We couldn't find the message sent to bot. It appears that it was not sent.Edit

Hi, Thanks for running this, the automation is easier than when my husband did this same thing, way back when... However, I appear to be stuck on step 5... It is saying the bot did not receive the message but I saw it in IRC... se this record of what the bot said ... the bot did respond to the message so I captured that. How should I proceed now? I can honestly check all the check boxes on step 5 :) Epousesquecido 03:08, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

The nick is registered, but hasn't been used in a very long time. The Freenode FAQ says that if you ask a staffer, we'll be happy to manually drop the one you want so that you can re-register it. Problem requesting an IRC cloakEdit

(cross posted from help desk)

I'm trying to register and get a IRC cloak for using the Wikipedia IRC channels. I've registered as Pyrspirit and connected it to an email address and alternate nick, and I'm trying to complete the steps at the cloak request page. I'm currently stuck at step 5, which is checking that all steps have been completed. It gives the following message:

We couldn’t find the message sent to bot. It appears that it was not sent or was sent using a wrong nickname. Incomplete requests will be stored for three days before being discarded, so you can return later to complete this request from this computer in that time frame.

I've tried sending the message it specified (/msg wmfgcbot !reqcloak [confirmation code]) several times, but it doesn't seem to work. I've never used IRC before, so I'm not sure what to try next. Why isn't this working? Pyrospirit (talk · contribs) 16:19, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

Can ownership of #wikipedia-<some-2-letters> chanell be revoked from its founder, if community or Arbcom decide so? I see that there is group of people (IRC/Group Contacts), and You are one of them, who are liaisons between the Wikimedia community and the staff of the freenode IRC network. Ownership and use of the #wikipedia-hr channelsEdit

Sean, we have an issue on the Croatian IRC channel #wikipedia-hr where the founder of the channel is the steward Dungodung, and he has been managing other user rights. No one in the Croatian wiki space user or admin have the founder flag. I believe that the community that is gathered around the Croatian Wikipedia project are quite capable of managing the #wikipeida-hr and other channels associated with the project Considering the policy that is used on meta http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/IRC_Group_Contacts states that "...The contacts have a policy of staying out of channel affairs and letting individual channels run themselves unless it becomes absolutely necessary for them to intervene. This is because most channels have their own communities, and it wouldn't work to have the contacts micro-managing every single Wikimedia-related channel out there..." I agree that stewards need to step in from time to time. They have a care taking role but in service to the community. The Croatian wiki users are wishing to regulate their own affairs on the IRC channel, can this be rectified as soon as possible.

Regards,

Vodomar 07:30, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

This message would have been useful had you written the whole history. I'm not the founder as a steward, but as a GC. I intervened because the situation at the channel is so awful that you guys cannot agree who you want to be your owner. So, as an intermediary solution, this had to happen. --FiliP ██ 09:16, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
Ok, I will get the whole history to you within a day. But to state the the "situation at the channel is so awful" is condescending remark to the people who work and devote their time to the Croatian wikipedia. It is fine to be a caretaker, but then the channel needs to be given back to the community who are quite capable in looking after it. Vodomar 10:20, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
Hi there Vodomar. Let's be clear: dungodung is acting as an IRC contact /not/ as a Steward here. I encourage you to talk to dungodung about how he runs the channel - perhaps you can arrange to have some other users given operator priviledges if it is necessary. If you can't resolve things then send me an e-mail, but from what I have observed myself, the channel is far from ideal and needs some form of guidance. Thanks. —Sean Whitton / 16:06, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
