Sourcing inquiry
editHello Rosie. As a Trustee and Co-Founder of Women In Red, I would be interested in any comments you may have on the data I have compiled in the following table:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:HK187/log&oldid=22899954
It shows all of the biographical content added to English Wikipedia recently by Jess Wade that at time of publication lacked an inline citation at the end of the relevant line or paragraph, and what has happened to it since then (in all cases the content remains on Wikipedia, having been tagged as needing a citation by the editor Melcous, but without being fixed).
For context, this data was compiled using only visual inspection of the biography and associated edit logs. It therefore doesn't list all content that may lack a source (a source at the end of a paragraph was assumed to cover the entire paragraph, for example), nor does it specify whether the content might be supported by a source that is present elsewhere in the article. It also doesn't consider the content in the introduction, databox or other areas outside the main text. For completeness, it lists all biographies published by Jess Wade in the given time frame.
I have picked Jess Wade for this not so random spot check of Wikipedia's performance, based on her high profile as a Wikipedia editor working on the specific task of adding biographies of low profile individuals to Wikipedia at scale, for the reported dual purpose of both a signifiant material change in the content of Wikipedia, and the inspiration of others who might share this strategic goal, or more generally to recruit more editors to Wikipedia.

- Hello, HK187, and thanks for connecting with me. This talkpage is for my Board-related work. In the capacity of a Trustee, it would be inappropriate for me to comment on the matter you bring to my attention: whether or not there was adequate sourcing in particular articles, in a particular Wikimedia sister project, by a particular editor.
- You also mention Women in Red so you might consider posting your inquiry there, without naming any one individual to respond (e.g., I wouldn't feel inclined to do so there either as I have other priorities these days). The Women in Red talk page, had 2,914 pageviews in the past 30 days alone so some volunteer editor may be inclined to review the data you've compiled and provide a reasoned response.
- There are some useful templates that could be applied to articles where an editor believes there are sourcing issues; see en:Wikipedia:Template index/Cleanup/Verifiability and sources. Just mentioning in case you weren't aware of them. Happy editing, HK187! --Rosiestep (talk) 15:15, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
