Welcome back!
editWelcome back! I hope you had a nice break. I don't think an awful lot has changed since you left, but just in case, be cautious before you do anything :) Happy editing! Majorly (talk) 23:58, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Blacklist
editHi - thanks for the help. Please can you log all requests here. It may seem a pain but in a few months time it will be almost impossible to find who made the edit and why given the traffic on the page. If additions are not logged it is quite likely that the site will be removed in the future for lack of evidence. Let me know if I can help - thanks --Herby talk thyme 07:37, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- It would be good if you could log this original one please. I see another now referring to an en wp request. If this is only an en wp issue then it should be blacklisted there - if not some info on the wikis that have been spammed would be useful in case anyone appeals. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 07:58, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
- Catching up - I see it is now blacklisted on en wp as well - clarification please (one need removing) - thanks --Herby talk thyme 08:10, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
- Ok - it really would be good if you would consider answering queries on this page. Equally I am not aware that we block IPs indefinitely except in very exceptional circumstances. Given you lack of response to my previous enquiries here I'll amend the block. --Herby talk thyme 07:59, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, I blocked the IP as it is an open proxy. It is my understanding that proxies are blocked until they are closed. If I am in error, please feel free to modify the block. I also apologize for the lack of response here as I haven't had much time to sit down and respond to your other requests. I'll go through any recent additions to the blacklist and verify their placement. Nakon 14:18, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Q:Interwiki link
editI put the note there too but are you sure the prosposed form would not work? Someone just put a second interwiki style URL set as permanent diverts (at my request) so the form listed should work (or tell me what other change I need to ask for). Thomas Gainsborough for example which works as http://schools-wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas Gainsborough . --AndrewCates 07:14, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Blacklisting
editHi - the help you are giving is great and a pretty awesome lot you have got through, thanks. However can you please follow both policy & practice & log the entries the same as the rest of us (The bot ones are so simple as the logging text is already there). I realise that you have your own page however folks following may well not know/find that. The log page makes it very easy to find a list & the rationale which is essential when any appeal arrives. I also see that your regex is maybe less precise than most - I do know from some I've had to fix that it may lead to "innocent" sites being caught?
Thanks for the work anyway - cheers --Herby talk thyme 06:23, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, Can you please show me where the policy is that requires I use the log format? I'm not trying to be difficult, but I can get my work done much faster when I don't have to worry about all of the other nonsense. I have a log that gives a diff link for each addition. Nakon 06:29, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- Header box on Talk:Spam blacklist clearly states "Completed requests are archived (list, search), additions and removal are logged." Header box on Spam blacklist/Log clearly states "This is the entry log for the Spam blacklist; all additions should be logged so that future users can easily find the reason."
- You may well be faster - you are not being considerate I'm afraid. I have had to remove entries because I could not find the rationale, I'm not going to spend my time searching the whole of Meta & I doubt others will either. Finding who added a listing from the page history on the BL is extremely time consuming. I'd also prefer not to have to spend time fixing other peoples regex. --Herby talk thyme 06:40, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
So - add to the above
I've just had to do this in order to sort out this. I'm sure it was quicker for you, I assure you it did not make things quicker for me. You may safely assume I am unimpressed --Herby talk thyme 11:56, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- I'll second this, please add them on the meta log. The program that lists the crosswiki reqeusets even format the snippet for you. All you have to do is copy paste. This lets folks wondering where things are to check just the one log. (It also means that admins can remove entries from both the blacklist and the log). —— nixeagle 05:35, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, I'm wrong on one point, at lesat the log is on meta wiki, where we can change it. When it was on enwiki that was impossible. Regardless, could you please log in the global log for future entries? Its fairly easy and painless, and makes life better for everyone :) Thank you. —— nixeagle 05:45, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
- (as a side note, the bot provides acceptable regex for 95% of the cases that it lists. I know it used to be done without the \b, but that was added to the regex to prevent the blacklist from being over eager and blocking sites not related to the original spam.) —— nixeagle 05:45, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

- Will you please comply fully with logging. You have had it pointed out by a number of people on this page. I have asked for comments here. There must be some mare rationale or whatever --Herby talk thyme 16:14, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- I will add my opinion also -- please log entries on the spam blacklist log. Thanks, --A. B. (talk) 19:38, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Removing from your spam blacklsit
editI'm removing nacion.com [1] as it's a major newspaper. PLease don't blacklist on meta urls linked only in one or two wikis. If that was spammed on enwiki, ask for it to be added on enwiki's blacklist. It's definitely a good link on eswiki as it's a spanish newspaper and therefore it's used on several spanish speaking (and related) wikis. Major newspapers get linked as references all the time. es:Drini 15:32, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for noticing that. Nakon 15:34, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
Another one: goear.com that hsouldve gone on pt's blacklist: [2] We're getting several reports on village pumps when did you add such links?, please don't list urls spammed in one or 2 wikis. Direct to local blacklists. es:Drini
- I think the main thing is to actually go and look at the web sites being linked. When I've looked at the bot-reported stuff, I've found about 1/3 were legit, 1/3 looked fishy (but I wasn't sure) and 1/3 were obviously junk on any Wikimedia Project. I noted the legit sites and I blacklisted the clear junk but I didn't do anything with that middle third of fishy stuff. I decided when using these bot reports, we should adhere to the old doctor's dictum, "First, do no harm," even if that means just letting some spam go.
- In the case of the nacion link, the bot report showed one editor adding nacion.com links to 3 different Wikipedias. As it turned out that editor is a prolific, trilingual contributor from Costa Rica. There were also other editors adding links in a random way, cross-wiki, as references.
- These new bot reports are a powerful tool -- we're all still learning how to use them. --A. B. (talk) 18:06, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
bepress.com on blacklist
editHi, why is bepress.com on the blacklist? I've had to remove it from several Wikipedia articles because I can't edit further with that link on them anymore. It seems like a legit site, though? Gary King 00:21, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
letraslibres.com on blacklist
editHello, I'm a user from Spanish Wikipedia. We have a problem with a link to letraslibres.com which was added some time ago to es:Agustín García Calvo, for reference purposes (documenting this author's influence on Javier Marías, another Spanish writer, one of whose articles was published at letraslibres.com). As letraslibres.com has been added to blacklist, we can't now use this reference. I see someone mentioned the posibility of whitelisting this site for Spanish wikipedia [3]. Maybe you can fix that? Thanks in advance. Afiche 16:49, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Removal from the spam blacklist
editHi, that was not a good idea really... I dislike all the process and fuss around it, but removing all your entries seems very POINTy to me. Majorly (talk) 21:11, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- If they are going to insist on creating a log entry for every line, I am not going to go through and do so for the preexisting entries. Nakon 21:13, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Spam blacklist
editHi Nakon,
The domain interfree.it
you recently added to the blacklist was removed as the reason for its addition is unclear; you may comment at Talk:Spam blacklist#piscator.interfree.it.
Also, I inform you that you're mentioned in a thread here.
Thanks and regards, Korg 19:37, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- They may remove any of my entries that they wish. I'm not going to be visiting the spam blacklist page for a while. Nakon 23:04, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

silvento.kiev.ua
editHi Nakon... pleeease help me... I don't know where to write and whom to ask about this:( My web-site was in wikipedia for a long time in russian and english variant of "Italian Greyhound"... Several days ago I decided to try to add my site to the section "links" to other languages of "Italian Greyhound" (and I think that was the reason why my site was blocked...), after several days I noticed that it was removed from all webpages of wikipedia in IalianGreyhounds and in 1-2 days it was added to the blacklist:(( I'm sorry for my bad English! But my website is really very popular in the world among all breeders of italian greyhounds, as there are a lot of articles in Russian and different information in Russian about this breed, I have English and French versions of my website they are not so infomative as the russian is, but they are usefull too...it is the only site in ukraine where everyone can find the dogshows results of italian greyhounds in ukraine...ant it is the first website in Ukraine about this fantastic breed!!! Please remove it from the black list and allow me to add it to the section Links in the Russian version of ItalianGreyhound!
