Translating an entry edit

If you want to translate an entry's text below, add your language's code as a parameter to the template.

For example, if the entry has this code:

  |en=English stuff here.
  |ru=Russian stuff here.

then add "|xx=Translation here", replacing "xx" with your language's BCP 47 (based on ISO 639) code. You should obviously replace "Translation here" with the correct translation of the message. You can sort the language codes alphabetically (English sorting order), but it will not affect the way in which the message is displayed.

New entry, existing month header edit

To post a new entry on Template:Main Page/WM News for an existing month header, use the following sample:

|en=This is the text that will appear if English is selected. This parameter is mandatory as it is used as the default for other languages without a translation.
|xx=This is the translated text that will appear if the language whose BCP 47 (based on ISO 639) code is "xx" is selected. If the xx parameter value for a language isn't defined, the English text will be picked instead. Do not actually add an "xx" translation.

Note: Please' sort entries by date; this means that you should add your entry to the top of the section, after the "{|", if it is the most recent.

New entry, new month header edit

To add a month header (with example news entry), use this template:

Note: Please replace "04|2024" in the header with the correct month/year pair (MM|YYYY format).

Archival edit

After being on the Main Page for 2 or 3 months, old news should be archived to Template:Older goings-on. Remember to archive from the bottom up (from old to new). Every year, the old content of Template:Older goings-on itself should be archived to a subpage of Goings-on (e.g., Goings-on/2012).
