  • For European users who have a life beyond Wikimedia, 17.00 UTC is probably the worst time ever. It's the time you: frantically try to finish your work before you go home, bathe the kids, start making dinner, your mother calls you, you are stuck in the bus going home after a day of university... in short, it sucks :) So, we need to think of a rotating time for European users :) notafish }<';> 23:31, 25 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • For Australians, this time slot requires staying up after midnight or getting up really early. (Perth: 1am; Sydney: 4am) 18:00 is better, and 21:00 is even better as it means all of Australia is getting up early to attend. John Vandenberg 02:09, 4 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • It is difficult to have a convenient slot for all people. It may be worth while alternating between two time slots, one of which is convenient for any person.

  • just to repeat what i said and isn't in the actual log: "alternating times (asia/pacific - america/africa/europe) are a propper solution and also a chance to structure the topics on the table more efficient", "we will not find one time acceptable for all around the globe. publishing the log is the obvious solution and people can decide about the value of the conversations themselfs by reading it", regards --Jan eissfeldt 19:59, 5 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Rotation

1. Should we alternate days?

2. There is general agreement on alternating times. Should this be switching between two convenient times? Rotating forward by N hours every time (and dropping back a day when it crosses to Sunday)? Revisiting regularly as would-be attendees change?

proposal

how about this for a rotation proposal:

  • Feb 5 was at 1800UTC -- good for North America and Europe
  • Mar 5 should be at a time good for "the rest of the world" -- 0900? That's basically a good time for everywhere except the Americas.
  • then back to 1800ish for April

Alternative:

  • 2100 was also proposed as a time for Europe -- this could be the Mar. 5 time and April we could rotate to a time for Asia/oceania.

  • Don't care which day; approve of changing the time; would like an 'interest list' and delivery of a message to my talk page (which for me happens to be on EN, and we spoke about the need to post cross-wiki) a few days before the meet, giving some idea of the remit.   • I've found that 21:00 UTC can work well for some international meetings. If the meeting can be kept under 2 hours, it should still be finished before midnight in Europe. It's 1pm in San Francisco which works well if you want people from the office there to attend during their working day. It's 8am in Sydney during the southern hemisphere summer. It's harder in winter since 8am in Sydney becomes midnight in Europe. Angela 10:28, 7 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • I like Phoebe's suggestion - 09:00 is 17:00 in China, 16:00-17:00 in SE Asia, 18:00 in East Asia, 17:00-20:00 in Australia, 14:30 in India and 09:00-12:00 throughout Europe and the Middle East. Three hours later would bring in the east coast of the US (07:00 their time, 08:00 during their summer) while not being unreasonable in any of the others above. Having alternating times (whether two per Phoebe or three per Jan) is a good idea as it includes different people and hence brings in different perspectives/ideas.   • Sounds good, but it won't work unless we can solicit our projects for participants. Additionally, language will be a barrier, which may interfere with the idea of moving the time. Still, I think it's a pretty good idea.-- ono  22:10, 10 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
