Questions in other languages edit

I'm not sure how this works: can questions or requests in languages other than English really sent to that address? And if they can, what's the purpose of answering in English and then hope there will be a translation so that the person can read the answer? I don't know how to translate these pages without this information. Thanks, Nemo 10:58, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi. :) Yes, questions and requests in languages other than English can be sent to the address and have been. Questions are replied to via email as well as on the website. I have so far not had any question come in in a language where I could not find somebody fluent to help craft my reply or in which I was not fluent enough to make myself understood. I always include the English response as well, just in case.
We haven't had a general question (of the sort that would go on the front page) come in in another language yet; so far they've all been very specific and likely of narrow interest. I hadn't really thought about how I'd handle it. I suppose what I'd do is put the answer up in English, mail the answer in the correspondent's language and go ahead and put that language on the translation request page. --Mdennis (WMF) 12:33, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
