minor_edit edit

Hello, Daimona Eaytoy. About minor_edit: there are dozens of global filters that use this variable. IKhitron (talk) 13:01, 8 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

@IKhitron: Here on meta I couldn't find any. At any rate, the variable has been deprecated for two years now and always set to false, thus making it useless. This would be a good chance to fix any remaining filter using it. Although, again, I couldn't find any here on meta, and a basic search on several big wikis yielded 0 to 3 filters, all deleted anyway. Did you have any specific filter in mind using minor_edit? --Daimona Eaytoy (talk) 13:30, 8 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Daimona Eaytoy: See here, please. Either all those have this variable, or there is some search problem. IKhitron (talk) 13:34, 8 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
@IKhitron: No, none of those filters uses minor_edit. Shortly, the answer here is one of the mottos of a dev: "it's not a bug, it's a feature". Searching filter patterns is disabled for global filters (see T191539), mostly for user rights reason IIRC. In fact, if you select "Global rules only" and click "Update" the search bar goes away, and it re-appears if you switch to "Local rules only". I recognize that this is not excellent, as a proper solution would be to use JS to dinamically hide/show the search bar depending on what set of rules is selected. However, that currently cannot be done due to an OOUI bug, see this patch and T191658. --Daimona Eaytoy (talk) 17:14, 8 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
)-: I see. Thank you. IKhitron (talk) 17:15, 8 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Also, there seems to be some kind of permission requirement (you need to be able to see hidden filters, presumably)? With a non-admin account the bar is not visible even in local mode. --Tgr (talk) 19:50, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

A bot problem edit

@Johan (WMF) and Quiddity (WMF): don't know who distributed this issue. But the bot seems to be broken. A small part of users get the issue. IKhitron (talk) 20:07, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Well, I know now. @Trizek (WMF):. IKhitron (talk) 20:15, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Trizek (WMF):? It's Tuesday, and our wiki still not get the news, for example. Thank you. IKhitron (talk)
IKhitron, I believed it was about the truncated issue, which has been replied below.
How many users didn't get the issue? Trizek (WMF) (talk) 15:20, 15 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
As far as I know, Trizek, all of them, except Matanya. IKhitron (talk) 15:22, 15 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
I'm investigating. Trizek (WMF) (talk) 15:24, 15 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
I've started looking into this, will continue tomorrow, see if certain languages are more affected. I might send it out again – neither the option of doing so, or not doing it, are great. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 18:08, 15 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
OK, from what I can tell, it's a MassMessage problem. I don't really know how to deliver this to the ones who might have missed it without this being checked, unless I manually check everyone on the target list and manually paste it on the page if missing. Reported in phab:T213942. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 16:47, 16 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
After the message in the next issue, I published the missing one manually for all hewiki users. IKhitron (talk) 16:17, 17 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Our hero. (: I might have to run next week's issue in smaller batches, that seems to get around the problem. Will take far longer time to deliver, but, well, it'd be delivered. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 16:20, 17 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Well, Johan, the same users did not get the next issue. Is it permanent? IKhitron (talk) 11:08, 22 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Huh. That's really not good – not only because it shows up again, but because I really tried to work around it. Can you give me a list of those pages? /Johan (WMF) (talk) 11:13, 22 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Again, in hewiki only Matanya get the message. Looks like only flow works, Johan IKhitron (talk) 11:52, 22 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Johan? IKhitron (talk) 14:37, 24 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I've been travelling without internet access, taking a look at it later today. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 14:38, 24 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Or, more realistically, tomorrow. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 06:18, 25 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
I have not been able to figure out what this problem is. Correct me if I'm wrong: We have a problem that's specific to Hebrew Wikipedia wikitext delivery. It works in wikitext in Hebrew as long as it's not on Hebrew Wikipedia (example), and it works in Flow on Hebrew Wikipedia (example: Matanya). This started with 2019-03. The MassMessage log for Hebrew Wikipedia doesn't even contain entries from 2019, but not speaking Hebrew, I might have missed something here. Surrounding targets on the target lists are, if coming from other wikis, not affected. I'll poke a number of people and make them have a look at this over the coming week. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 17:16, 25 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Do you mean, Johan, that all pages that did not get the issue in these two weeks were on hewiki only? I thought you'd talked about 440 pages. IKhitron (talk) 17:18, 25 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
That was for a different delivery. For Tech News, 2019-04, I specifically chopped up the target list in eight smaller lists, to avoid the job queue choking on the long delivery. As far as I can tell it seems to have worked. I've only done manual testing, but all other pages I've looked at have had successful delivery; all wikitext Hebrew Wikipedia pages seem to have failed. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 17:23, 25 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Weird, Johan. So, I think I do need to deliver the last issue manually, don't I? And what will happen on next issues? IKhitron (talk) 17:25, 25 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
That would help, yes.
I'm going to ping people who might be able to help solving the problem, or – as a start – figure out what's actually happening. I've reported it in phab:T214712 to start with. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 17:29, 25 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Done. IKhitron (talk) 18:33, 25 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Well, it did worked well this time, Johan. IKhitron (talk) 11:32, 29 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
I did nothing different this time, so I have no idea why, unfortunately. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 22:10, 29 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Distribution problem edit

@Trizek (WMF): It looks like only part of the news letter was distributed, see [1]. I fixed it with [2], is there any automated way to fix the other delivered posts? With kind regards — Mar(c). [T] 23:54, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Ah, this was already reported (and replied to) here. — Mar(c). [T] 23:57, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Sorry about that, Mar(c). Thank you for fixing it! Trizek (WMF) (talk) 13:25, 15 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
