Refreshing

How can we refresh the the data displayed on teh special:tatictic page in our our MediaWiki installion? I thought this page would have described more of teh MediaWiki Statistics 'engine'.

Adding search engines to Webalizer

Is it possible to add search engines to Webalizer configuration? I'd like to add the following line:

SearchEngine    najdi.si   q=

I suspect that a lot of traffic for sl.wikipedia.org comes from this engine. --Romanm 11:05, 17 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Is this not possible? :-( Slovene Wikipedia gets twice the ammount of traffic from Najdi.si compared to Google, so current statistics is not really relevant ... --Romanm 12:50, 24 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Request for statistics data for nn.wikipedia.org

Hi. Can somebody please organise for nn.wikipedia.org to be included in various meta:Statistics data? It was created July 31 and is already proving to be quite active. It would be nice to have today's data for future reference. I would like nn: to be added to:

• Data in the form of http://wikimedia.org/stats/[site-url]/, i.e. http://wikimedia.org/stats/nn.wikipedia.org/
• Data as seen in the tables in e.g. http://www.wikipedia.org/wikistats/EN/Sitemap.htm

en:Special:Popular pages sounds like an interesting page but it doesn't seem to exist. 128.205.219.145 21:47, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Agreed. Why not having Wikibooks and Wikiquote statistics? At this moment You can see article number statistics on December 6 at my page: ja:User:Aphaia/Sandbox2#Stats on wikiquote. I made it for my interlang linkage activities. --Aphaia 20:42, 18 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Webalizer

An update of http://en.wikipedia.org/wikistats/EN/TablesWikipediaMI.htm would be most welcome, as there has been an upsurge in activity since 16 May when the last lot was produced. Wikicities have had one or two updates since then. Robin Patterson 7 July 2005 11:39 (UTC)

user navigation

Is there any way to obtain data on HOW users navigate from page to page and which pages they travel to in the course of one wikipedia session. This could help optimise page building/linking to allow for easier information finding. I suspect session cookies would be needed to track browsing habits, but can someone comment on if this woudl even be useful with such a deep crosslinked site as Wikipedia. 72.140.191.251 03:19, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

Visitors counter

Visitors counters have been disabled because they slow the servers. But would be able to make work them again in "small" languages projects which are no so much visited. Then it would not slow the servers because there are relatively very few visits, and editors in "small" languages want to know if their work has a sense : are the pages they create visited ? I finally received notion of what is wrong: a non-public wiki was not marked as such and therefore added to the stats, disclosing discussion topics. I will remove data for this wiki from the csv files and republish when current dumps are ready and processed. Erik Zachte 23:51, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Delay

Page load times

I've noticed a substantial increase in median article load time recently, and wonder where the bottleneck is. Oddly, I can't even find statistics on average page loading times. Are those being measured? If so, where? 71.198.176.22 17:07, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

After the IRC general meeting yesterday, some OTRS workers indicated that their queue lengths had been increasing. Here one can find that Romanian Wikipedia added +53% of its popularity (number of page views) last month.

But here one can find most visited pages on Romanian Wikipedia this month

Organizing this page

I've been thinking a bit about how best to organize this page. There are two main options: by dashboard and by topic. I think by-dashboard organization is ultimately less useful; from my experience navigating the world of Wikimedia dashboards, the fact that one metric is in one dashboard and a similar metric is in another is usually due to historical happenstance rather than conscious planning.

So rather than follow these arbitrary divisions, this page should impose a logical structure focused around answering the reader's question. That's usually something like "How many active editors exist on the Japanese Wikipedia?", not "What are all the dashboards built using Limn?"

This structure should also communicate who the main consumer of each piece of data is likely to be. Metrics about editing activity, for example, are probably heavily used by the WMF Editing department.—Neil P. Quinn-WMF (talk) 00:42, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

I agree with the point about structure.

As for consumers, stats are needed (and further, just used) by many other groups, within and without WMF. For example, WMF grantmakers look at editorship data when considering grant applications. Program leaders in specific communities use stats to assess their own project health or the effect of a major media attention cycle, for example. Etc. etc. Ijon (talk) 05:35, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
