"(S)election" does not work among non-Latin languages
editTranslation segment #43: Kindly avoid poetic wording as the expression (S)election. At jawp, we are investing hours and discussion to comprehend the documents related to the Movement Strategy and its Charity, to the extent that we discovered without glossary, we are lost at deciphering so many wiki jargons.
Kindly have me honest with you. This instance, or (S)election, is a very painful pun for non-Latin languages; I sense what you are trying to tell, maybe a light heartedness to what could be a gloomy topic... I have to admit among double byte languages which characters are not solely phonetic, or express more than pronunciation, with single character, eg kanji/Japanese script can convey so much meaning!
At least, I have tried for:
(S)election -> 選択(選挙)
Sorry, the pair does not convey the light mood, but misleading or plainly indicate we are not sure what is written/being read as translator, or, well, our glossary builders will have decide to avoid reaching out to the original author of not in native tongue. Feeling of shame comes to some Asian mind if you don't read other's mind right... Cheers, let us be inclusive, Omotecho (talk) 18:15, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

- @Omotecho: You're quite right. As a non-native English speaker myself (and the main writer of this report), I find your point quite valid. I have just edited out this expression to something that is, hopefully, more straightforward. Existing translations shouldn't be affected. I'll this in mind for future communications, in which we are trying new processes to simplify what we write --Abbad (WMF) (talk) 17:37, 7 January 2022 (UTC).
- Good day @Abbad (WMF), fantastic to learn we are somehow in each other's shoe, and please haven't I stepped on your shoe and give you a pain? I felt warm when I saw the writer was trying to encourage participation and give a small gift of pun, I read the coined term aloud. Humor received with grin across my cheeks. (: Cheers, -- Omotecho (talk) 06:44, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Omotecho No worries. It has been really helpful for someone to point out the problem. Please do it again when you find it :) --Abbad (WMF) (talk) 12:22, 12 January 2022 (UTC).
