Requests for new languages/Wiktionary Piedmontese

submitted verification final decision

This language has been verified as eligible.
The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page.

Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval.

If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval.

  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:

Proposal edit

Piedmontese is considered a dialect in Italy and there aren't laws that protect it. According to the data of the University of Turin, 2 million people can speak it but cannot write piedmontese and don't know most of the words when they are too dissimilar to Italian.

So it could be very useful for Piedmontese to create a free project to collect the less known words and rediscover them and return to use them to have again a finer and richer language as it was many years ago. I dont't joke when I tell you that the youngs' Piedmontese is an Italian speech pronounced with a heavy and funny regional accent.

Obviously we're going to actuate this beginning from the Piedmontese Wikipedia. There are a lot of elders who have a very deep knowledge of Piedmontese, but often they simply havent't the resources to sproud it and communicate it to others. I hope you'll agree with me! Good night!
