Requests for new languages/Wikisource Central Bikol

submitted verification final decision
Discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Votes will be ignored when judging the proposal. Please provide arguments or reasons and be prepared to defend them (see the Language proposal policy).

The language committee needs to verify the language is eligible to be approved.

  • Check that the project does not already exist (see list).
  • Obtain an ISO 639 code
  • Ensure the requested language is sufficiently unique that it could not exist on a more general wiki.
  • Ensure that there are a sufficient number of native editors of that language to merit an edition in that language.
  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:

Proposal edit

Central Bikol is one of the most spoken among indigenous languages in the Philippines and is a major language which is used in the Mother Tongue- Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) of Department of Education in the Philippines along with Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilokano, Waray, Kapampangan, Pangasinense among others. Publication in the local language began in the 1890s with the establishment of local printing presses in the region. It was the beginning of the first golden age of Bikol literature. Currently, there are remnants and rare copies of old publications which are valuable sources of information that can be found in libraries and private collections such as local newspapers, magazines, almanacs, and other publications. An open-source like Wikisource in the local language can serve as a repository of these materials.

Discussion edit

There are libraries that have a collection of old local newspapers and magazines waiting to be digitized and transcribed for the use of the public and future generations. Personally, I have a collection of old souvenir programs now in the public domain and other publication which copyright has expired. --Filipinayzd (talk) 01:26, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Filipinayzd: Have you ever been started the test project? as of now the main page even doesn't exist. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 03:33, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
