Steward requests/Bot status/2006-03

Done. --Ascánder 00:08, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Please grant bot status to these accounts. I am already running with a bot flag on af, da, eo, fr, it, la, nl. On eo, la and nl I do all kinds of tasks, on the other wikis it's mostly inter-language links. – gpvos (talk) 22:23, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

There is no consensus on w:es as to this request. Please do not grant the bot flag for that wiki until the matter is resolved. Taragui 14:38, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
We are requesting Gpvosbot's operator to describe how the bot will operate (scaning es:, scanning some other wikipedia, manually, etc.). For the mean time the bot could run without a flag for a testing period. (Please do not flood)
        Chlewey 18:33, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
I will be scanning nl:, eo: and la:, and making interwiki links based on what I find from there. When I find a problem, I may do a manual run to solve it. Also, if permitted, I will process warnfiles (reports about links from other wikipedias to es:); I do this always with manual confirmation. Added later: I would also be happy to run without a bot flag, as long as I can make the interwiki links. However, someone complained to me about this, so I haven't done that for some time. – gpvos (talk) 20:58, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

On es: I got a negative reaction; I am not pursuing bot status there any further. On ru: there has been no reaction at all (see the link to the archived request above); you metas may decide whether that's good or bad. :-) That's it. I'm requesting bot flag on :en WP (see request on :en). After ones week run, there were one problem with bot, but it was fixed. Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 10:58, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

Unsure if approval given yet. Asked for clarification at w:en:Wikipedia talk:Bots. Angela 10:43, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
I believe we're hanging fire until the bot's author tells us exactly what is going on - there's been some confusion understanding exactly what interwiki links the bot will be updating. Initially, we were led to believe that the bot would be updating five language's worth of interwiki links, but it transpires what the author intended was to have the bot updating all interwiki links on five Wikipedias. At the English Wikipedia, we have a policy whereby interwiki link bot's owners must understand the affected languages, so if the latter ends up being the objective here, then we may have a problem. Rob Church Talk 03:08, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

The bot is using standard python wikipedia script, so I feel that this is not a problem. As for misunderstandig: I'm using this bot on 4 (5 if :en would be approved) WP to change IW of all WP. Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 20:10, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

You say it's updating the interwiki links for all languages? That conflicts with en-wiki's requirement that you understand the languages, I do believe. Might be best to hang fire a bit longer and see what people think back on en-wiki. Rob Church Talk 03:20, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Once more, I would like to request a bot-flag; the problems were resolved and bot has made it on this list. Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 12:13, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

I don't understand. The only links you give are the user talk pages (of which one isn't even on the wiki in question). Is there a local village pump where the bot has been announced? Jon Harald Søby 18:17, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
This is the situation; nl:gebruiker:Jcb sometimes is active on JBO-wiki with his bot. He has receive a request from jbo:user:Piere on his talk page (see talk page) from Piere of JBO-wiki. Piere is one of the 2 sysops of JBO and the only bureaucrat there. Jcb has put a notice on the talk page of Piere (see jbo:User_talk:Pier#RobotJcb) on 26 december. Look at the RC of JBO. That is a near dead wiki. It is not incorrect to regard Piere to be able to speek in the name of the "community" for so far it exist.
I have informed Jcb that he could make a "Request for botstatus page" on JBO and ask it formally again there. I see in this case no problem in granting bot status directly. A new request to the "community" of jbo will only be for show. --Walter 00:48, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
a quote from the top of this page: "... but please remember - your bot must first be accepted by the local community". imo this means that if either community or support are missing, RobotJcb can still work on jbo as much as he wishes to, but (for now) simply without a botbit, meaning: without being concealed in the normal rc. a proper request is never "for show" but a serious matter, please don't start handing out permissions or botbits without conforming to policy. what's the hurry anyway? oscar 03:16, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
For me there is no hurry, I expect to do about one or two single botedits every month there. The only reason to apply for a botbit was there request on my talkpage. For me there is no problem. Jcb 17:53, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Although it was not requested here, I made RobotJcb@pamwiki bot, because it was doing so many edits that Recent Changes was virtually unreadable, making it hard to see if anyone has spammed it. I hope there are no objections to that. Jon Harald Søby 18:14, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

if the community is ok with it: fine. if their was no community support, then it should be approved first according to the policy above, i am afraid. btw as an alternative for such situations it is imho also perfectly possible to (urgently) request bot-operators to slow down their bot to a more acceptable speed if they simply go too fast. oscar 21:10, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
The problem was not that my robot was to fast, it does one edit every few minuts, sometimes more than 10 minutes nothing. The problem at was a lack of other edits. Jcb 13:41, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

This bot, if authorized, will most probably run without bot status. (support: 18, against: 13, 5 supports explecitely asked no bot flag) --Chlewey 21:32, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
My understanding also is Mar 12th closing. The general feeling is that the bot should not run with a flag, and that's fine by me. My interpretation of what has been said, is that the majority are in favour of allowing the bot to run without a flag, specifically for the 342 articles for which I'm requesting authorisation - but there seems to be a core of editors who are against bots per se. So the closing administrator may need to exercise some judgement. I've put one example article es:Distrito de Bar-sur-Aube up by hand and added some material to it as an example of how these stubs might evolve. Dlyons493 Talk 21:34, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

User Supercool has asked many times for bot-status. He should know by how it works. Doing from the first time the right way would have taken him only a couple of minutes and a steward the time for writing "done + sig".
Request still rejected. Make bot-request page on LAD, ask permission, use YES / NO section, put an start and end date on it and when he has local permission ask here again with a new request. --Walter 19:27, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

+ related comments about from talk page user:walter

Hi, I read the request of Superzerocool in Meta about his bot in; but in don't exist a page for request because the wiki is very small, exist 4 sysop: ILVI (bureaucrat), Auxlingua (bureaucrat), Yann and me. ILVI and Auxilingua are missed and Yann never had any edition; then I'm the only sysop active in lad. So, I prefer temporally receive request for bots in my discussion page; beacause no sense realize any votation, because I'm the unique active sysop in I will stay for your answer.--Taichi - (あ!) 03:37, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

The fact that there no request page or (almost) no community is irrelevant. If there is no page yet then you make it. If there is no responds or only one vote in favour after one week (from you) so be it. Then is it fine. Just follow procedure and my instructions. --Walter 09:55, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
Excuse me, but ¿when exists this politic?. I don't find any politic about create for obligation a request page in any wiki. In some wikis as chamorro (ch:) don't exist sysop or active users; is some rare this rule. Please explain any reference about any aprobation of this rule and then I proceed. --Taichi - (あ!) 22:06, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

I'm requesting a botstatus for my bot. My plans is to do some work like ordering categories, templates etc.

Thanks you for assistance. --Panther 14:43, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi! Could you please add a link to a page where you have requested this bot to get a bot flag? Like the village pump or a bot request page (I think ru has a bot request page). Jon Harald Søby 18:31, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
We have no standard procedure to request a bot status, but I placed a message on our village pump. --Panther 20:21, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
Yes, ru-wiki have no bot request page. I have recommended ru:User:Panther to request bot status for his ru:User:BotCat here. --Jaroslavleff 05:10, 22 February 2006 (UTC) (ru:User:Jaroslavleff).

For Upload file with { { GFDL } } from en:, eo:, ru:

Could you specify what project the bot should get status for, who you are, and the place it has been announced? Jon Harald Søby 16:28, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
The project: eo:Vikipedio:Laboro por robotoj#Eltrovado de senco.
Discussion in commons: commons:User talk:Maksim#please link images.
I noticed 2:07, 14 January 2006 Jon Harald Søby changed group membership for User:Maksim-bot@ruwiki from to bot. So Jon where are we with this anonymous request? Is it done for :eo and :en too? In this case, why not archiving the request. Thanks to update info or move to archive. villy 21:06, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
My request is for commons:Maksim-bot. Excuser me I, mistaken [ [:commons: ] ] and [ [:meta: ] ] (they both are for all languages) Maksim 15:15, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
The simplest, Maksim, would be to enunciate your request following the boilerplater request above at Requests_for_bot_status#Boilerplate_template_for_bot_requests. You will notice that the local request link should not be a user talk page but on [[:xx:Project:XXXXX]] model. Typically, for Commons: Commons:Village_pump should be the place for the local request. Thank you. villy 20:18, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
Well, but I will not request for a while. Maksim 06:46, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
Villy: Sorry for not replying, I didn't see this before now. The ruwiki request was just below this one, and was archived: /Archive/January 2006#ru:Участник:Maksim-bot. Jon Harald Søby 20:53, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Commons:User:David Benbennick

Commons:User:Dbenbenn will be uploading 3140 maps as Commons:User:David Benbennick in a few days. It might be nice to have the bot flag set on that account first. See Commons:User talk:Aurevilly#Bot flag. Dbenbenn 07:48, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

Seems in order. Although you should clarify on its user page what its for ("I rarely use this account as a bot" should be changed). You beat me to it. =) Jon Harald Søby 07:52, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

botbit granted. oscar 23:47, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

botbit revoked

Only 3 days after getting the bot-status he made 809 automated text replacement in less than 3 hours changing "Christendom" (Christianity) into "christendom". Most of these changes are unneccessary, in some cases it is an improvement and in dozens of cases it caused broken links or pages that can be considered as insulting. Having a overview of religions like this:

  • Buddhism
  • christianity
  • Hinduism
  • Islam
  • Judaism
  • Sikhism
  • ....

gives the impression that wikipedia shows respect for all religions except one.

A request to him the next day (here in Dutch) to check these changes have not been answered two weeks later. It is not clear if he read the request or not, but the longer we wait the harder it will be to rollback these unwanted changes. I just started doing so, but it took me an hour to check and correct the first 100, so it will take me like 8 hours before all is done. Best Regards, Robotje 12:22, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
