The Pilipinas Panorama Community is a thematic community based in Metro Manila, Philippines. It was founded in 2022 by Filipino Wikimedians advocating cultural heritage, history, language & ethnicity, art, freedom of panorama, and Wikimedia's Movement Strategy, contributing to expand the global availability of free knowledge.

Background

In 2021, a proposal was revisited by PhilWiki Community (PH-WC) members for local branches inside the user group. Among the feasible branches are the Manila Branch and the Bicol Branch. Thus on June 25, 2021, the board approved Resolution: Policy on Establishing a PhilWiki Community Branch to establish branches of the user group. Manila-based Wikimedians were temporarily incorporated as the Manila Community.

In December 02, 2022, as a result of talks between two previous PH-WC Presidents, Juan Bautista H. Alegre and Ralff Nestor S. Nacor, the PhilWiki Community - Manila was formally founded. The branch of the user group was meant to spearhead and organize all activities of PH-WC in Metro Manila and the whole Greater Manila Area.

However, for the purpose of capacity building, the community was renamed as Pilipinas Panorama Community. The new thematic community is composed of members with shared advocacies in freedom of panorama (FOP), as well as movement strategies and cultural heritage preservation in the Philippines.

Objectives

  1. To be a prime mover in the passage of the Freedom Of Panorama (FOP) in the Philippines especially among the community of Wikimedians in the Philippines
  2. To be an active support group for the Wikimedia Movement Charter being a Movement Strategy priority
  3. To advocate for the profiling and preservation of cultural heritage in the Philippines in any means including through Wikipedia articles and media files in Wikimedia Commons
