North-West Russia Wiki-Historians User Group (NWR-Hist; Группа «Вики-краеведы Северо-Запада России») is a group of people interested in various topics related with North-West Russia local history, across all Wikimedia projects in all languages. An application for the creation of the group was submitted to Affiliate Committee on July 22, 2019 and approved on October 7, 2019.

Objectives

  • Promotion of North-West Russia history and cultural heritage related topics in different languages
  • Cooperating with local authorities, organizations and individuals to receive grants and other materials to promote free knowledge

Activities

The northwest of Russia is traditionally identified with the territory of the Northwest Federal District. However, the group's members decided not to include the Kaliningrad region, the Murmansk region, the Arhangelsk region, and the Komi republic, which are somewhat separated from the rest of the SFSR. We believe these regions should become the focus of their own local and ethnic user groups.

So our activity zone includes Saint Petersburg, Leningrad Oblast and their neighbour regions: Vologda Oblast, Novgorod Oblast, Pskov Oblast and Republic of Karelia.

In the borders of marked territories our activities are:

  • Organizing wikimeetups, wikitours, wikisightseeng, etc.
  • Organizing article contests and thematic weeks
  • Exploration and photodocumentation of our local historical, cultural and nature sites; updating Wikivoyage database of cultural heritage and natural monuments as a result
  • Writing and editing articles, related to history, architecture and culture of North-Western Russia
  • Joining projects organized and promoted by Wikimedia RU (Wikimedia local chapter in Russia) and promote them in North-West Russia regions
  • Cooperation with other affiliates to achieve its goals
  • etc.

Main language of this mailing list is Russian, but feel free to write us in English. Also we have chat rooms in VK and Telegram that are free to enter, but currently is temporarily limited. If you want to join one — write someone from the user group. Working language of chats is Russian, but English is allowed as well.
