BDavis (WMF) edit

I would like to request Translation Admin rights here on metawiki primarily so that I can reduce the burden on other translation admins in marking pages as ready for review that myself and other members of the Wikimedia Technical Engagement team are actively maintaining. I have had translation admin rights on mediawiki.org since 2022-05-05. My use of those rights has not been extensive, but I hope it has helped both in reducing toil for others and in presenting more complete content to users. As Foundation staff I could request these rights through the Trust and Safety team, but I would personally feel more comfortable knowing that the community trusts me with the hat. --BDavis (WMF) (talk) 22:43, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No issues with them holding TA, but isn't the route for staff only via T&S as per office conventions? Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 07:11, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please request rights as usual from WMF --Ameisenigel (talk) 13:13, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please note:
  • We should not use old tvar syntax (<tvar|1> </>) anymore.
  • We work closer to Translate developper recommendations about segmentation than on Mediawiki.org: I mean, we usually keep the whole paragraphs in the same unit, so we avoid closing translate tag just before opening a new one.
  • You may want to look at Meta:Internationalization guidelines.
No opposition as for me, your help is welcome! -- Pols12 (talk) 21:44, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Personally I think it's positive that you have created an opportunity to rate whether the community trusts you to use the features of your translation admin. It is believed that the community will help your future translation admin work by giving you feedback. Since no one has any serious negative comments or opposes, I may attach a TA to your account by way of the community process, but I'm afraid this goes against office conventions; WMF are responsible for the work performed by their staff, so they can flag according to their internal processes. So if you think you've got enough commuity feedback, you can withdraw this and get TA flag through the internal process, and if you want this community process, I should think about an appropriate way to handle it. --Sotiale (talk) 02:35, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No issues with Bryan having these tools, but I think this needs to go through Meta:Requests for adminship#WMF Office Staff and Contractors nonetheless. The WMF does have an internal procedure and do track employee on-wiki rights for their staff accounts, so perhaps this should be handled by them for consistency. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 22:03, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond here. I will withdraw this request and consider if I want to go through the WMF internal process for requesting rights instead. I will also save my complaints about the need for that process for another forum. --BDavis (WMF) (talk) 22:36, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Based on the comments above, I consider this to be withdrawn. --Sotiale (talk) 11:25, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
