Meta:Requests for bureaucratship/Herbythyme

Info about me: Herbythyme (talk • contribs • count • logs • page moves • block log • CA • email) & my matrix of wiki accounts and activities
I was not planning on this at present however taking a look at Special:Listusers/bureaucrat I see that effectively all normally active 'crats are either stewards looking at confirmation or are standing for election as stewards. This does not mean that they are unavailable by any means however it does mean that they have other things on their mind at present.
There is no mountain of work, no backlog however I would be prepared to assist if the community wished me to and had the confidence in me. I've been making "judgments" on here for a while now on the spam blacklist and I am quite used to evaluating deletion & similar votes here and elsewhere - I'm not aware of any mistakes so far! If I was not sure I would seek advice as I always do. My matrix means that if I would not to use the rights for a period of three months they can be removed. I gained my first sysop rights just under a year ago on en wikibooks and I've had sysop rights here on Meta for around 6 months. I also have & use CU rights here. In the time I've been here I've made nearly 2500 and I would like to think I had got to know this project quite well - both it's people & views and the ways of the project. I would certainly consider myself one of the more active admins here at present and I am usually watching RC.
I'd sincerely appreciate your support and I assure you I would carefully evaluate consensus before acting to grant permissions etc, thanks --Herby talk thyme 19:42, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Support A hugely competent wikimedian, well respected everywhere he turns up, capable and serene, who is eminently qualified for the role. Right now, this second, the 'crat situation here is under control, things get done with alacrity, but why wait till there is a problem? Unless there are actual reasons where having too many crats would cause serious harm, (and I don't see any) I see absolutely no issue with promoting Herby and strongly urge his approval by the community. ++Lar: t/c 20:15, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Support Whilst understanding the points raised by Majorly, and feeling it's perhaps not right to pre-empt a problem as a way of justifying these rights, I agree with Lar and support this request. I'm slightly irritated however, that in my recent RfA, one of Herby's concerns was that there wasn't enough work to warrant me as an additional admin yet he recognises there might not be much work for him to do as a 'crat. - Support, with apologies to Mrs. Herbythyme :). Herbythyme believes strongly in the value of the work we do on Wikimedia's projects, and really enjoys helping us do it. As much as it seems more or less sensible to have a cadré of b'crats here on meta who are also Stewards, meta is also in some ways a bastion for users who are interested in helping wikimedia find it's way without becoming Stewards, and Herbythyme is easily an archetype for this sort of user. --SB_Johnny|talk|books 20:59, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Support In response to Majorly: becoming a bureaucrat really doesnt mean that he will have more "power", and herby has never been one to act as if he had power anyway. If anything, having rights on multiple projects shows that he is well-trusted and very versatile: features that people at meta need. In response to your previous comment as well, As a bureaucrat myself (on en.wb) I can tell you that all it takes is a few poorly-aligned wikibreaks, or a few real-world issues to deal with to drain a seemingly large corps of bureaucrats down to "panic!" levels. Not having a pressing need for a new bureaucrat is not the same as having too many. You don't turn away a good candidate just because you feel that the workload isn't overwhelming right now. With that said, Herby is certainly a good candidate, and that's really all that should matter. --Whiteknight (meta) (Books) 00:18, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Strong Support - I don't understand Wikimedia's obsession with minimalism when it comes to higher positions - if a trusted user says he wants to be in a trusted position, I say full steam ahead. ~ Riana ⁂ 04:14, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Support, although I have noted Majorly's concerns, Herby can be trusted and will make goos use of the functions. --Anonymous DissidentTalk 05:23, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Sure, no problems whatsoever. Yeah, we phobably have 'enough' bureaucrats, but Meta is not a home project for any of them, so having an extra 'crat would improve response time. MaxSem(Han shot first!) 08:01, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I consider Meta as a home project, but I don't suppose it matters. Majorly (talk) 09:16, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Titanium Support - I have always seen Herby as a very trustworthy admin and I believe we can never have too many crats :P ..The more we have, the better it is for the foundation and herby has proven to be a good and understanding candidate, so why Not ? ..--Cometstyles 08:24, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Strong Support based on a superb track record of dealing pleasantly but firmly with various situations, especially spam. From his comments in various venues on Meta, I think he is very attuned to the (unwritten) "Meta Way". --A. B. (talk) 16:15, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Support. Can't really say that meta needs another crat, but Herbythyme would undeoubtedly do a good job - no reason not to support. WjBscribe 06:14, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Support Herbythyme is on the relatively short list of users whose requests for permission I feel comfortable supporting without further thought, which is good, because further thought hurts my head. Joe 08:11, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Support Herby's a valued contributor to a number of Wikimedia projects. There's no doubt that he will keep up the good work here on Meta-Wiki as well. Nishkid64 (talk) 17:46, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
