"London" Wikimedia Meetup Number 159Edit

NOTE - This meetup will be virtual due to the Coronavirus pandemic

Date and time: Sunday 11 October 2020 13:00โ€”18:00
(join at any time you can, no need to stay for the whole afternoon)

Location: Online
We will use Zoom video chat. the wub will host and send out invitations on the day via Wikimedia email to any users signed up below.

Although this meetup is a continuation of the regular "London" gatherings, going virtual means geography is no longer a constraint so do feel free to join from anywhere you may be!

Please also invite any London/UK Wikimedia people you know (or have had wiki dealings with) โ€“ spread the word!

May be attendingEdit

Interested but not attendingEdit

  • Would have liked to attend but I have a prior commitment. Hope to make it next time. Mike Marchmont (talk) 16:39, 2 October 2020 (UTC)

Topics discussedEdit

Thanks to all who joined! Some topics discussed today, so attendees can refer back and non-attendees can get a flavour. There are probably many things missing as my note-taking and memory are both pretty haphazard:

  • Zoom virtual backgrounds fun
  • Doctor Who
  • Covid-19
    • some Original Research on its symptoms
    • comparison with past pandemics
  • Wikipedia's 1 billionth edit could be close to its 20th birthday w:Wikipedia:Time Between Edits
  • Various sockpuppets, and the ease of creating them
  • Collaborating on a church article draft
    • Where should "church" appear in page titles? Should it be capitalised?
  • How to size images using the upright option
  • How prescriptive should the Manual of Style be?
  • Getting more images of schools
  • Inclusionism/deletionism and subject specific notability guidelines
  • We were joined by a journalist for part of the meetup, Simon Garfield, who was interested to meet editors for a potential upcoming article

The next meetup will be virtual again, on Sunday 8 November (Remembrance Sunday). Hope to see you there! the wub "?!" 11:35, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
