Grants talk:Project/Rapid/UG GE/Wiki Loves Earth 2018 in Georgia

Hi Mehman97. Thanks for submitting this grant request. It was great to see you in Berlin and I'm sorry we didn't have a chance to talk more. We are happy to support Wiki Loves Earth in Georgia for its second year. It's great to see that you will be doing more active outreach on different platforms this year as I remember that being one of the major learnings from last year's competition. I have a few additional comments below:
- The number of participants is relatively small (15), even compared to last year (24). So you think with increased outreach efforts you may exceed this number?
- The proposal notes that "the photos taken during this contest will be used in Wikipedia and in other Wikimedia projects". This is great! Do you have any specific plans to engage or motivate volunteers to use the photos? Last year's photo use rate is 3%. The photos uploaded are amazing so it would be great to see more in use.
- Please note that we cannot fund cash prizes. We can support prizes such as gift certificates, photo equipment, books. etc. Please confirm that you will not be giving cash prizes.
We will approve this grant and look forward to your responses on the questions above. Cheers, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 17:50, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Alex, I'm glad to hear you after Berlin here!
- if you look at the trends of the last two years, you can analyze that interest by year decreases to the competition, so we try to make something new every year, so this year we will actively use social media and think with this we will increase the number of participants.
- We want to organize a wikicamp by the end of the summer, during which we want to update the media files in most Wikimedia projects.
- I confirm that this will not be cash prizes, most likely we will give the winner a book or smartphone on behalf of wikimedia.
- thanks for the support! Cheers, --Mehman 97 18:35, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
