Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Tochiprecious/Igbo Wikipedia Ejiri mara ndi Igbo/Report
Comments from WMF
editHello Tochiprecious, thank you for submitting this final report. It is great to see that you have met all your initial goals for this project! I have reviewed your report and have a few concerns and questions.
- I have reviewed the list of created and improved articles from your events, and have some concerns regarding the quality of articles. There are a lot of stub articles (e.g. Odinạnị), some of them have broken templates (e.g. Amadioha); I have even encountered vandalism in one of them (Ogbunabali). Moreover, some of the articles you mentioned in the list don't exist (Ogu na ofo, Ibini Ukpabi, Nze na ozo, Ọji, Ṅka Igbo).
- How have you reviewed and assessed the quality of articles after the event?
- Why do you have non-existent articles in the list of created articles?
- Are those really short stubs acceptable for the Igbo Wikipedia community?
- Do you have anyone in your community who can work with templates and create the missing ones?
- What will you do differently next time to ensure better quality of articles?
- Can you share some photos from your event in the report page?
Thank you again for your contributions to the Wikimedia Movement! Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 13:16, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
Hi DSaroyan (WMF) , thank you very much for pointing these out.
- After the end of the events, I usually go through the Articles to either correct errors or check their existence.
- For once I was scared because I remember going through the Articles and have never uploaded non existent articles. I had to search through for the articles again. I realized I made mistakes. I made some punctuation errors on the names of the articles on my list making them different from the ones on Wikipedia that's why they came out non-existent. Except the (Ogu na Ofo which came out as part of the articles in Ọdinani and a repetition of Nka Igbo. I was notified of Ọdinani being connected to Wikidata as it has a lot of content that could be used on Wikidata) I'm sorry about this, I will make these changes immediately and create an article for 'ogu na ofo'(This is still an ongoing translation by one of the participants) Also, about the vandalism, I just saw this as it was not on the Article the day we created it even after until now. I will edit it.
- The short stubs are acceptable because these have to do with culture.
- The templates have been a major concern for a couple of years now as we have no one to work and create missing templates. I have tried tried learning it from my friends it other user groups but each time we try to translate it says template unavailable in the language wikipedia. It removes the beauty in our articles. Please we sincerely need help in this aspect.
- Next time, I will pay proper attention to my article list to make sure it's not different from the ones on Wikipedia.
- About the photos, I've been having difficulty uploading them on WikiCommons. It keeps saying upload failed that's why I didn't have pictures in this but I will try again or send them via email.
Thank you very much, I sincerely apologize for this oversight. Best regards, Tochiprecious (talk) 16:07, 24 February 2020 (WAT) Re-edited 18:11, 24 February 2020 (WAT)
Report accepted
editHello Tochiprecious, thank you for your detailed clarifications.
- In order to avoid mistakes and extra work in monitoring and listing the contributions of editors, I encourage you to use the Outreach Dashboard for your upcoming events. It will automate the full process of tracking and provide final metrics on your project.
- There is no need to create the missing articles. I just ask you to be more attentive to the quality of created content when training new participants in the future.
- The templates should be created or translated by someone who speaks Igbo. I suggest finding someone from your community who can deal with the technical stuff of Wikipedia, and encourage that person to learn how to create templates. That person will later support you in creating the missing templates and might train others. This is what we have done in my home community where we had a similar situation.
- You can skip sharing the photos this time. However, please be sure to upload the photos from your events and share on the report page in the future. Please ask someone from your community to help you out, when you are having trouble with uploading.
Tochiprecious, thank you again for your hard work! I have accepted your final report and expense documentation. This grant is now complete. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 08:18, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
