Hello Tochiprecious, thank you for submitting this grant application. We have now reviewed it and have some follow up questions.

  1. You mention that you will be doing 4 editathons; can you please give us an idea of what type of prompts or topics you plan to organize around for each of them?
  2. How do you plan to recruit people for each of the editathons?
  3. There currently are 4 active Igbo community rapid grant proposals, some of them proposing editathons. How does this initiative work in concert with the others?

Thank you, and looking forward to your responses. WJifar (WMF) (talk) 17:34, 1 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello WJifar (WMF), Thank you for your response.

  1. For the 4 edit a thons, we will be translating and if possible creating new Articles on the Igbo Cultural Heritage some of which include:Ikenga, Ala, Ogbanje, Nsịbịdị,Amadioha, Igbo Calender, Ekpe, Chukwu, Alusi etc. This is because I observed a lot of people are suddenly interested in these topics recently and it's also a way of documenting culture and making it available to people.
  2. In recruiting people, I already have a number of interested editors who are willing to volunteer for this. But aside that, I recruit new editors via my Twitter and Facebook pages and I 2 new interested editors already contacted me via Twitter to teach them how to edit which we already fixed a meeting for. In the previous one, I had 2 editors from Owerri Who I taught to edit without being physically present in Abuja.
  3. Most of the current Igbo edit a thons proposals are focused on Wiktionary but my focus is on Igbo Wikipedia: to add new contents and also increase the number of Articles and Visits. Last month during the WikiGap I checked the statistics of Igbo Wikipedia page views and according to PageViews, Igbo Wikipedia had 53,000+ views and was ranked as the 3rd most visited between January to February. This encouraged myself and other editors when I shared it via my Facebook and Twitter pages. If Igbo Wikipedia still has less than 2000 Articles and got such views, it means people are greatly interested in it and we need to work harder to add new Articles and keep improving it. I feel as many edit a thons as possible will be a good way to do this.

Hello, Tochiprecious; thank you for your responses to our questions regarding the editathons you propose. Considering the amount of resources needed to host each of the events, your strategy to recruit participants and the frequency with which you intend to host them, we would like to propose that you aim at reducing the number to three editathons. We are open to discussing this idea; we propose it because we consider that aiming to work with more than slightly more than ten individuals in each editathon and holding them less frequently (rather than once a month, once every six weeks) would be enough to meet the same goals while saving resources and reducing the footprint of holding an event.

Regards, and looking forward to your response. MMontes (WMF)

Hello MMontes (WMF), Thank you for your suggestion and the email notification. I'm sorry for the late response. I'm out of town and my internet connection here is very poor. Sure I can reduce the number of edit a thons to 3 instead of 4. Kindly let me know the next steps to take.

Warm regards and looking forward to your response Tochiprecious talk 04:49 p.m, 27 April 2019 (WAT)
