Goals edit

The project goals was met to an extent except for the targeted number of articles that wasn't met.

The project goals was met to a larger extent as it helped add more people to the community of the Igbo Wikimedians User Group which was recently launched, created more awareness for the Igbo Wikimedia Projects and also opened up partnership opportunities.

We had a series of 3 editathons over 4 months focused on adding more content into the Igbo Language Wikipedia platform and increasing the number of articles on Igbo Cultural heritage and also making corrections on existing articles.

Number of Participants (10) Number of Participants (20+) The targeted number of participants was estimated at 10 per event. We had an average of 10 and more per event except for a rainy day where we had 6.

Number of of articles created or improved (40) Number of of articles created or improved (30+) We couldn’t reach the number of targeted articles because we had mostly new editors and it involves a lot of time teaching them.
Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events): 15 Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events): 7 We have an estimated number of 7 repeat participants in the course of the series of the edit-a-thon. We assume this is because the individuals have different commitment levels and also it was held in different locations.

  • What worked well?
  1. The social media campaign to source editors was very successful
  2. Event targets largely reached
  3. The project helped add new Community members to the Igbo Wikimedians User Group
  4. We were welcomed by the Onitsha Ado Local Government Chairman who also provided us accomodation and feeding to make sure we taught the participants well.
  5. In Awka, Anambra State, the Commissioner for Youths, Creativity and Entrepreneurship met with us and commended us for our efforts in promoting Igbo Cultural Heritage.
  6. I was invited as one of the panelists during the Digi-Preneur Week 2019 to talk about Wikimedia and it's projects.


  • What did not work so well?
  1. The Meet up for the Month of July was held in August due to other engagements such as the Igbo Wikimedians User Group Youth Strategy Salon and Igbo Wikimedians User Group Strategy Salon.
  2. Most of the editors were new editors and training them made achieving the number of articles difficult.


  • What would you do differently next time?
  1. I would prefer to have longer edit series instead of 3 edit a thons.

I miscalculated my actual budget which I realized after having signed the agreement and this led to having less funds for my program.

  1. Carrying out the project, although was a bit challenging but was exciting. The people in Awka, Anambra State were happy to hear about the project and the documentation of Igbo Cultural Heritage.
