Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Nymeria/Editatonas Mujeres Nicas

Latest comment: 6 years ago by Nymer1a in topic Thank you!

Hi Nymer1a. Thank you for this grant request and for organizing the editatonas. We are very excited to see so much great work on the gender gap happening in Nicaragua and appreciate your efforts. Please note that the funding limit for Rapid Grants is 2,000 USD. Sometimes we can make exceptions, especially considering you are doing three events. However, we will need more details on your budget.

  1. Facilitation: We do not typically pay people to facilitate events or serve as Wikimedia trainers as this is normally done by volunteers. Does this "facilitation" line item cover something else?
  2. Production costs: Please let us know what this line item covers.

Hi Alex Wang (WMF)!
I'll try to translate most of the answers the organizers gave me.

About the facilitation. We usually find a way to recognize the work our facilitators put in to planning and teaching. Our facilitators are young women, without formal work. They are feminist activist underpaid or without a stable source of income. And since we are committed with a feminist approach to economy, we try to pay at least some of the work women put on to the workshops. But, if you don't usually pay for this item; we would ask for travel expenses for the facilitators.

Regarding the production costs, this budget line includes expenses related to the functioning of EnRedadas, as the coordinating entity. We are a self funded initiative and each event has derived expenses, such as Internet and Electricity bills. And it also includes the travel expenses, lodging and food for the Editatona planed outside the capital: taking into account that León (one of the cities proposed) is 3.5 hours away.

Please, let us know if you need us to change some of the proposal. Thank you! --Nymer1a (talk) 03:22, 27 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello Nymer1a, thank you for providing explanations for your expenses. While we understand the reason for wanting to provide facilitation fees we are unable to provide this support since this task is usually carried out by volunteers for no fee. We are looking at our grantmaking strategies for next year and this is an area that has become a priority for us to look into to better support our volunteers. Given this reason we would ask that you edit your budget to reflect the travel expenses of your facilitators as opposed to a facilitation fee. Thank you for all your work and do let us know how you want to proceed. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 17:20, 1 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi WJifar (WMF) We made some changes in the application form, reflecting the first budget line as Proyect Managment and reducing the productions costs. Please, let us know if this is OK or if we need to make other changes. Thank you for the support. The first Editatona planned for this year is coming in a couple of weeks and we need to know if we can count on this grant to make it happen. Thank you for your comments. Bests, --Nymer1a (talk) 02:44, 6 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
