Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Nirmal Dulal/Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 in Nepal/Report

Hi Nirmal Dulal. Thank you for this detailed grant report and all of the team's efforts to make WLM 2017 in Nepal a success! We have a few comments/questions below and look forward to your responses.

  1. The number of activities the team planned and monuments covered is really impressive! There were photowalks in at least 6 differnt cities in Nepal. That takes a lot of organization. How many people did you have on the organizing team?
  2. The photos from Nepal are always very impressive and it's exciting to see how much rebuilding of monuments is happening since the earthquake.
  3. What were the "Photo tech" and "Photo guide" sessions about? Are they something you would repeat in future years?
  4. We really love the campaign you had not to do printing and waste paper/trees!
  5. Consider the high quality of the photos, it would be great to see more in use on the Wikimedia projects. Could you organize any special activities around integrating photos? Or include this in next year's contest?

Congrats again! Cheers, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 04:11, 20 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

1. That takes a lot of organization. How many people did you have on the organizing team?
First of all thanks a bunch Alex for your compliment. Regarding our photowalks it was really a great experience working with such a great team members around. Talking about the team, we’re 5 core team members for organizing all these stuffs around Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kavre, Janakpur and Rajbiraj. Additionally, we collaborated with a popular photography facebook group “Nepalese in photography” and “Nepal local guides” as team associates for photowalk and photoride.

2. What were the "Photo tech" and "Photo guide" sessions about? Are they something you would repeat in future years?
Well, “Photo Guide” is a session we’ve done during our photoride to guide our participant newbie and professional photographers about the core concept of WLM, the use of those uploaded image in Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects, licensing terms e.t.c. Likewise, “Photo Tech” and “Monument Talk” session was delivered by our Pro photographer team members during the Photoride to guide the other participants about :
-the technical aspect of capturing photographs
-basic terminology of monument photography and lighting
-detailed information about the monuments and its history e.t.c

3. Consider the high quality of the photos, it would be great to see more in use on the Wikimedia projects. Could you organize any special activities around integrating photos?Or include this in next year's contest?
-We’re planning to organize a photo-editathon session to arrange these uploaded photographs in a related wikipedia articles. Well, it’s been a while we’re planning for this, hope to execute this by next couple month.

Thank you! - Nirmal Dulal (talk) 14:33, 21 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
