Endorsement edit

Seems to be a good proposal with clear strategy and deliverables. Budget seems reasonable and location seems to be where there hasn't been a Wikimedia event before. – Ammarpad (talk) 17:04, 23 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Endorsment from BnHamid (talk) edit

I support this application. It will be very useful and impactful to the school community and also raise more awareness about Wikipedia projects. The plan for training and building community is good and I am confident the proposal will contribute immensely towards Wikimedia community development.

Comments from MEA regional funds staff edit

Hi ibkt, thank you for submitting your grant application. After reviewing your grant proposal, we have some questions to learn more about the project and planned activities.

  • Thank you for putting together a detailed proposal with clear activities. We are glad to see that you collaborate with the local User Group to run the activities.
  • Are you in touch with the staff at Isah Kaita College of Education? Have you notified them about these proposed activities? Add the details to question 3.
  • How do you plan to run these activities given that there is a nation-wide strike in the universities of Nigeria? Please update the project start and end dates to be after the strike (question N & O).
  • We have some proposed changes and questions regarding your budget:
    • Since the training will be for the college students, did you consider talking to the college staff to get the space with a discount?
    • Please remove the camera hire expenses. I think the need for this expense is not clearly highlighted.
    • Could you please provide the need for covering travel for 6 individuals? What's the need for having 2 organizers and 4 facilitators in this relatively small project?
    • Please choose between souvenirs and small prizes and remove one of the expenses from the budget.
    • Update the detailed budget and requested amounts on Fluxx.

Please log in to the Grantee Portal and you will see your application in the 'Proposals need attention' section. Please edit and re-submit your application by August 14, 2022.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks for your time, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 11:05, 8 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Thank you Mr. DSaroyan (WMF). Here is my response to the bulleted points.
  • I am glad you find it good. I hope to make it better.
  • Yes, I am and I also work there. I have announced the event in both staff WhatsApp group and student ones.
  • This institution is not part of the striking university staff union (ASUU). They have different association which is 'Colleges of Education Academic Staff Unions (COEASU)'. Although they went for a shorter strike, it has been suspended already and we have been internally told to resume work. Here is also August 12 suspension news
  • The space cost is because we want the event when school is in session. This is still lower than the amount other external organisations are charged for similar events. It could be cheaper when school is not in session, but that would not be ideal for our program.
  • For the camera, I have expanded the rationale in the budget sheet. Also similar event I was helped in organizing there (e.g. Google Dev event and TedX and speeches do hire for camera coverage which is essential in documenting the event and for future record and promotion. I will like to request to keep this to make the event better. But it can be removed if absolutely necessary.
  • For the travel of 6 persons, they are to help run the event seamlessly and successfully and facilitate the various sessions. After discussion with my colleagues, I have reduced them to only 4 now, as that is also enough to work to implement the project.
  • The small prizes allocation has been removed.
  • The budget and total amount are updated.
Thank you for the review and questions. Ibkt (talk) 06:44, 14 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
