  1. The proposal is very important to the Nile academic community as it will expose both Staff and Students to the importance of promoting free knowledge and using Wikipedia as an open education resources to foster media and information literacy skills.
  2. The proposal is well developed with carefully stated goals, implementation strategies, and high level of community engagement to address knowledge gaps and change the perception of academia towards Wikipedia as an online encyclopedia. I believe this project has the potential to address knowledge inequity by creating new articles and improving already existing articles in the area of culture, religion, ethnicity and other topics of interest to the academic community. Moreso, the partnership with Nile University which have 6 faculties, offering 34 undergraduate and 47 postgraduate programs will increase the student participation in Wikimedia projects, and recruit new editors to the free movement.
  3. This proposal is built on the research carried out, which observed that most faculty members in Nigeria tertiary institutions do not accept Wikipedia reliable source for research or when vetting students assignments. Also, it was discovered that students within Nile University does not have proper knowledge of evaluating or editing Wikipedia articles. Hence this project has high potential of improving their digital literacy skills, research skills, critical thinking skill and helping them learning new things outside the regular academic activities.
  4. this project proposal will sensitize and train Academic community of Nile University of Nigeria on how they can harness the various articles on Wikipedia for their research work and even get to understand how they can provide reliable citations to Wikipedia articles. The project will also help students and staff to successfully use Wikipedia (and other Wikimedia products) to search, access, retrieve, interpret, and monitor the information consumed.
  5. This project will help improve contents on Wikipedia, Wikicommons, and this project aligns with the recommendations of Wikimedia 2030 Movement strategy which include:
  • Increase the sustainability of the Movement invest in skills
  • Improve user experience
  • Identify Topics for Impact
  • Innovate in Free Knowledge
  • Coordinate Across Stakeholders
  1. The project proposal is carefully drafted and coherent in terms of the objectives, strategies, budget and expected results (metrics).

Comments from the MEA regional funds staff edit

Dear Olabisi11, thank you for submitting your grant application. We have reviewed it and we have a few questions and requests:

  • While focusing on 100 participants, the number of contributions to Wikimedia projects seems low. Could you please revise the metrics to Wikimedia projects and align it with overall participation? (Questions 16 & 17).
  • You mentioned Nigeria Wikibrarians Wikimedia + Libraries Usergroup as your Wikimedia groups. Could you please tell us more about this group? Which group specifically organizes this project? Add the details to question G.
  • Who will be running the training for different Wikimedia projects? Add these details to question 5.

Budget-related requests

  • Please review the budget and remove DLSR camera expenses. Please also reduce contingency costs to 5% of the overall budget.
  • Please explain the Local running for 2 Facilitators expenses and provide a detailed breakdown.
  • Please remove the poster expenses. You already know your audience and the need for this expense is not well described.
  • Update the requested budget after the changes are done.

Please make these changes on Fluxx. Log in to the Grantee Portal and you will see your application in the 'Proposals need attention' section. Please edit and submit your application by June 24, 2022. Let us know if you have any questions. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 07:16, 16 June 2022 (UTC) Thank you, I will work on the observations. Olabisi11Reply
