Grants talk:PEG/UG MAI/Wiki Loves Earth 2016 in Nepal/Report

Hi Zeetendra and Biplab Anand. Thank you for this detailed report and all your efforts to organize a successful Wiki Loves Earth 2016! We are happy to approve this report and have a few comments/questions below.

  1. It looks like you had a strong project organizing team and lots of enthusiasm!
  2. All of your lessons learned sound like very good insights. The suggestions you've proposed for improving the contest in future years are all worthwhile, including organizing a photo-a-thon to integrate photos into articles, requiring registration so you can better track participants, and developing partnerships with photography clubs and tourism associations. You could also offer a prize for photo integration to support those activities. Is there interest in organizing activities around photo integration and article writing in the near future?
  3. Outreach programs: It would be helpful to have more details about the three outreach events. It's great to hear that you organized events in Pokhara and Ilam for the first time. Did you make contacts in those cities first or did you have partners there? Were the events photoexpeditions or were they focused on promoting the contest and getting new people involved? If you did do outreach to participants, did you see them enter the contest later or contribute in other ways?
  4. Please keep the remaining funds of 1,708 NPR and use for future user group activities.

Looking forward to your response. Cheers, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 17:50, 21 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi @AWang (WMF): Thanks for approving the report and comments/questions about the project.

1 It looks like you had a strong project organizing team and lots of enthusiasm!

  • → Yes, there were 5 people in the core organizing team and few volunteers with good past records of organizing such event. That really helps us to make this project successful.

2 All of your lessons learned sound like very good insights.

  • → Thanks. Yes there is, we are planning to organize a photo-a-thon (photo integration and article writing) in the near future. We will let you know about that competition.

3 Outreach programs: It would be helpful to have more details about the three outreach events.

  • → Well, I will expand that soon. We did make contacts with the photographers via social media and then describe them about the competition. Our first aim is focused on promoting the contest and get new people from there, which we had done. Yes we did outreach with the participants. Yes few from them are active on commons and others wikimedia projects.

4 Please keep the remaining funds of 1,708 NPR and use for future user group activities.

  • → Sorry for the miss understanding Alex, We had spent all the funds that we received from WMF. Actually we exceed about 1,708 NPR (my mistake). I already listed that amount on the report, you can check.

Thanks--Biplab Anand (Talk) 02:44, 22 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Biplab Anand. It is now clear that you overspent on this grant and are requesting to be reimbursed 1,708 NPR. This is approved. The additional funds will be sent along with your next grant payment for Wikipedia Mission 10. Cheers, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 21:23, 22 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
