Activities edit

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. What content will the contest focus on, and why is it important to your community?

This contest will focus on Home and Habitat in the Yoruba speaking states of Nigeria. This is important because it would improve the quantity of visual contents relating to Yoruba architectures, culture and heritages.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.

  • Yoruba Wikimedians User Group has been notified.

(see link here)

You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

We would notify our community on our social handles like: mailing list, WhatsApp, and Facebook.

3. How will you let participants know about the contest? In what ways will you be communicating with them?

  • We are already in contact with some professional photographers association, group and and clubs. We are communicating with them over phone calls and they have expressed their interest in participating.
  • We would create publicity on our social media handles using flyers, banners and other promotional materials
  • There would also be a call for participation
  • We would adopt offline discussion with community members at the same time.

For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

4. How will you judge the contest and award prizes?
Note: Grantees, judges, and other contest leaders are ineligible to receive prizes. Grantees who are serving as judges may not receive gifts through grant funding.

We will constitute a Jury team of professional photographers and experienced Wikimedia Commons editors and organizers to judge the contest and award prizes.

5. For photo contests, what is the strategy to get images used on projects?

We would organise two to three hands-on training for volunteers on how to upload media files and reuse them on related Wikipedia articles.
  • We will be participating in the Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos in 2022. This is a campaign that primarily focus on the use of Wiki Loves photos on Wikipedia articles. Before the WPWP campaign, we will organized an edit-a-thins to get images used on Wikipedia articles.

6. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

See the (risk assessment link here)

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

  3. Number of photos used on Wikimedia projects 200
