Wiki Loves Africa Zimbabwe 2022
Wiki Loves Africa is an annual contest to show case the African story though visual photographs, audios and videos. Wiki Loves Africa contest will be open to all interested professional and non professional photographers in Zimbabwe. The contest with the theme 'Home and Habitat' will facilitate free photo contributions of Zimbabwean homes and habitats on a free license.

  1. Introduce Wiki Loves Africa 2022 Home and Habitat theme to the existing and new contributors of wiki commons, raise awareness about Wiki Loves Africa and its Impact on reducing African content gap in Wikimedia projects.
  2. Recruit new and existing editors both (professional and non professional photographers) to Wikipedia projects.
  3. Increase skills for existing editors
  4. Add and improve content on Wikimedia Commons,English Wikipedia, Shona and Ndebele Wikipedia

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

Wiki Loves Africa in Zimbabwe will focus on content creation on the Wiki Commons to improve Zimbabwean content on the platform which has been lagging behind for so many years. The theme "Home and Habitat" will give an insight on the Zimbabwean way of life and help in creating the Zimbabwe content.Introduction and editahon to upload the visuals.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

  1. WikiAfLibs Zimbabwe WhatsApp Group, Telegram,personal Instagram, FaceBook, Twitter pages to spread the word.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

Participants will be notified through created WhatsApp and Telegram groups and other social media channels Twitter, Facebook and word of mouth.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.

Yes we have experienced users, mentors who are members of Wikipedia projects to participate and guide through the project.

The equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

We will need quality cameras for the project to ensure that quality photographs will be taken since we are engaging in the project for the first time and also skills workshops to outline the expectations of the contest.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

Lines of communication will be maintained with the participants even after the events and notification of upcoming events will be communicated to them through created groups and social media channels.

7. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

Yes we will have the opening and closing events as in person events however the events will be guided by the prevailing situation of the covid 19 pandemic and will be held in accordance with the country `s laws.

8. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

As Zimbabweans we are very excited to take part in this project as it comes after a lengthy period of dormancy in the Wiki Commons and other Wikimedia projects.The project will enable viewership of Zimbabwean`s way of life, their homes and natural habitats and most importantly the idea is to share as much content about Zimbabwe on the global space.

Opening and Closing ceremonies 2 $200 $400 We shall have in person ceremonies for the opening and closing sessions as a way of creating a good start of a new project and creating the spirit of participation and togetherness.
