use simpl The Iranian Wikimedians User Group is the only active affiliate in Iran. We face significant challenges, such as the restriction on sending funds to Iran by the Wikimedia Foundation due to the US sanctions, and the difficulty in obtaining visas for Iranians to attend international Wikimedia events, with many applications being rejected. These barriers have led to a lack of experience and blocked the transfer of knowledge between generations within our community.

Despite Persian Wikipedia having over 1 million articles and more than 5,000 active users, our community has minimal impact on Wikimedia decisions due to broken communication channels with other Wikimedia communities and the Foundation. This disconnect prevents us from fully participating in the global Wikimedia movement and leveraging collective resources and expertise.

Our goal is to organize a gathering outside of Iran to discuss our future plans and establish direct communication with experienced Wikimedians from around the world, as well as with staff from the Foundation. By doing so, we hope to gain valuable insights, improve our community's capabilities, and strengthen our influence within the Wikimedia movement. Additionally, we aim to create a sustainable framework for ongoing knowledge transfer and collaboration, ensuring that our community can thrive despite the challenges we face.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

We are planning to have 15-20 members of our community and 3-4 experienced Wikimedians or staff gather to discuss and plan the future of our community. The main activities will include training sessions on governance in Wikimedia, community engagement, and collaboration, as well as workshops on Wikisource, Wikidata, and Commons, aiming to enhance member skills and knowledge. We will also have strategic planning sessions focusing on community growth, increasing participation, and enhancing our impact on Wikimedia projects, with the goal of developing a clear action plan with measurable goals. Additionally, there will be networking sessions to strengthen community ties and foster collaboration by discussing best practices and sharing experiences.
