Grants:APG/Funds Dissemination Committee/2012 Shortlist FDC Nominees

The shortlist of nominees for the 2012 Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC) is below. It was a difficult task to narrow down the list with the diversity and depth of nominations we had: thank you to everyone in the community who nominated themselves, or who encouraged others to think about it. For such an important process as this, we wanted to reach out to as many leaders of the community as possible, so we sent out messages to 600 village pumps and did centralnotice for the last few days before nominations closed on 15 August 2012. At the e.o.d UTC 15 August, we had 42 nominations for the FDC, and 13 for the Ombudsperson!

The shortlist of 18 nominees were chosen based on their statement on the Nominations page, as well as their responses to the Questions posted by community members. In addition, FDC staff created a matrix for each nominee based on the following criteria: Wikimedia history/experience; Non-WM history/experience; Alignment with the FDC criteria developed in the framework; and Overall portfolio mix [languages, region, gender, chapter/wikiproject/community experience etc.]. For the Ombudsperson, in addition to the other criteria, FDC staff looked for both language and dispute resolution skills, and an overall understanding of the FDC mandate, since the community did not ask any specific questions to the Ombudsperson nominees. This matrix was shared with the Board and the FDC Advisory Group members, in order to select the shortlist of nominees.

These 18 nominees will be interviewed by FDC staff from 4-9 September 2012, using the questions detailed on the Nominations page. A summary of these interviews will then be shared with the Board and the FDC Advisory Group members. The Board representatives to the FDC will then announce the final FDC members and Ombudsperson by e.o.d UTC 15 September, 2012.

Other time requests

  • Would a time between 9:00 and 13:00 PST be possible? (that's 17:00-21:00 in the UK.) Tues, Wed or Fri would be preferable. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 18:19, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
Hi Mike, I've shifted my day tomorrow around to have an hour at 12pm PST (20:00 GMT); hope that works for you. The rest of the week is difficult, unfortunately, since we have a residential retreat Wed-Fri (that's why I can't offer time slots during the day then).
Thanks Anasuya, 12pm PST on Tuesday works well for me. What's a 'residential retreat'? I trust that the WMF will be ensuring that the other candidates that are also in a European timezone won't be unduly inconvenienced by the times that you are making available here? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 22:26, 3 September 2012 (UTC) P.S. I assume that the interview will take place by Skype? If so, my username is mike_peel. Please let me know if you require my contact details for other communication methods. Thanks!
Commenting on the 'residential retreat' - Sue mentioned in her talk at the last monthly metrics meeting (which I think you were physically in!) that it's going to be one for WMF staff who manage more than a few staff IIRC. The Helpful One 22:55, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks - unfortunately, I must have missed that mention, if it was made in the metrics meeting. :-( Is there an on-wiki page that sets out the aims and objectives of the meeting? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 23:00, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
Not that I am aware of, it's at the end of File:Monthly Metrics Meeting August 2, 2012.ogv at about 1 hour 12 minutes in. According to that it's a "strategic retreat" for discussing narrowing the focus of the WMF, to find out its major priorities and to figure out which things they are going to and are able to de-prioritise at a micro and macro level. I'll ask Sue to comment here too though. :-) The Helpful One 00:21, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing me here, TheHelpfulOne. You're exactly right -- the purpose of the retreat is for senior staff at the Wikimedia Foundation to discuss narrowing the Foundation's focus so that we can be more effective at executing on our top priorities. It's not a regular event but it's not highly unusual either: the C-levels had a similar retreat about six weeks ago, and this will be an extension/elaboration of that. Thanks Sue Gardner (talk) 17:29, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
  • Concur with Mike. It seems that the remaining time slots are 00:00-05:00 in my time zone (UTC +1). Would like to get 2pm on Saturday if possible.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 19:26, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
Hi Kiril, I've put you down for that time slot.
  • Observation: September 12 is a Wednesday, according to my calendar. Could the date/day of week for the interviews on September 12 please be checked? Thanks. Risker (talk) 15:48, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
