Discussion
- A new mobile app would be out of scope for Community Tech. It is a valid proposal though, so I will move to Larger Suggestions. See a similar proposal last year. Thanks for participating. DWalden (WMF) (talk) 12:08, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
- OK, thank you. Hehua (talk) 02:29, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- Since all projects run in a similar fashion; the Wikipedia app should be evolved into Wikimedia app that supports all sites. But the app is extremely inefficient and useless, almost no one even uses it. Go to RecentChanges stream of any wiki, find the number of app edits v/s mobile-web edit for example. The ratio should be close to 1:50 or more. That should give an idea of the app's uselessness. It doesn't even support CSS/JS in the year 2023. If the WMF absolutely wants to keep an app, they should use Twitter Lite as an inspiration and create a browser-based app that directs users to mobile site but from within the app, which separates learning experience from regular surfing experience. The only feature lost will be the dark mode, but if WMF is serious, they should bring dark mode to the websites anyway, for it is going to be the #1 CWS Proposal this year by a landslide. —(ping on reply)—CX Zoom (A/अ/অ) (let's talk|contribs) 08:10, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
- In fact, the editing experience through the app is really not good, and this proposal has no intention to change this problem, I just want a Wikivoyage app which can be more convenient for instant browsing. Hehua (talk) 09:13, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
- I think a unique app for all the Wikipedia projects would be easier to maintain and also would encourage mobile users to use and get involved in several projects, not just Wikipedia and wikivoyage.Ropaga (talk) 12:31, 20 February 2023 (UTC)
- Maybe. Hehua (talk) 01:58, 21 February 2023 (UTC)

- Support Strong support. Wikivoyage and Wiktionary are ideal to be read from mobile. Volunteer made Wiktionary mobile app had millions of users before terminating Vis M (talk) 06:52, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose the mobile layout of Wikimedia sites look and run fine. What do we need an app for? Snowmanonahoe (talk) 16:43, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
- You should open the browser and input the web address to access the sites. If we have an app, we can browse the webpage directly. Hehua (talk) 07:35, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

- Support Definitely, I find myself using Wikivoyage often as a reader. A mobile version would be useful. Juandev (talk) 11:34, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
- Support I think that this is really a good idea (or else it would be possible to create an application that brings together all the projects in a single application) -- Manjiro91💬 12:16, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
