Allow import of Flickr images regardless of claimed licence
Problem: Trusted users cannot import PD images from Flickr, if they are set to a non-free licence
Proposed solution: Allow trusted users (however defined and flagged) to import Flickr images regardless of claimed licence
Who would benefit: Experienced Commons uploaders; end users
More comments: A user can use the Upload Wizard to upload images from Flickr, if they have a free licence, or are marked as PD. They can upload images which have a non-free licence on Flickr, by first downloading them from Flickr to their hard drive, if they can make a case that they are PD (e.g. scans of old ephemera, 2D images of PD paintings)). They should be able to do this without the intermediate step.
I asked WMF Legal about this, and they suggested that this would probably be fine as long as the uploader was required to specify a reason for why they believed the given license to be wrong. SWilson (WMF) (talk) 02:37, 19 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Support. There's license reviewer right for that in Commons. All license reviewers should be able to do that. Taivo (talk) 19:34, 28 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
