Discussion
edit@DerHexer:, @Martin Urbanec: and @Vermont: Good evening everyone and I'm really sorry to bother you but I want to check if everything is OK with this request since this campaing is about to start. Thank you so much in advance and I remain at your disposal in case there's any questions. Best, --Paula (WDU) (talk) 01:01, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- Paula (WDU), nothing's been done on our end yet. Sorry for the delay here, and no worries for pinging us. The settings look okay re: language and region, though we generally can't do a full two months. 4 weeks is the longest we generally do, the usual cap is 2.
- I'm also going to hold off on enabling this until we get approval from JBrungs (WMF); according to the calendar there would be some overlap for anonymous editors viewing eswiki in 5 countries. (In the future, please remember to add your banner to the calendar too.)
- I've made a campaign and can make a banner when this is good to go, or someone else can, I'm unfortunately very busy.
- Best regards, Vermont (🐿️—🏳️🌈) 02:42, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response, @Vermont. Can you change the scope to something like this? We'd like to be present to everyone using es.wikipedia in every LAC country. We'll be waiting @JBrungs (WMF)'s approval. Thank you both, Paula (WDU) (talk) 03:26, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Paula (WDU),
- Thanks for the ping. Yes, we are running a fundraising campaign until the end of May in CL, CO, MX, PE, UY. This means 75% of non-logged in users will see a fundraising banner first, before they will see your campaign banner. If this is ok with you, I don't see a problem with the campaign as long as CN admins are ok with it. Have a good campaign. Best, JBrungs (WMF) (talk) 04:49, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, @JBrungs (WMF). We were aware and are OK with it. So @DerHexer, @Martin Urbanec and/or @Vermont, could you kindly enable the campaign and the banner so it can be running as soon as possible? Thank you all very much. Best, Paula (WDU) (talk) 12:30, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- Ok, campaign and banner created, not enabled yet.
- Paula (WDU), while creating the banner I read over the text and event page, and I have some concerns:
- The banner text (en: "Contribute to the knowledge we need for a sustainable future") is quite vague. It's unclear what this is a banner for, it could be anything from fundraising to advocacy. But, it's an editing event, and that should be clear for people who click on this.
- You've requested this be shown to logged-in and anonymous users, and the resources page has some helpful info, but I don't think this is sufficient for the audience. This banner will be shown to people who have never edited before, who may not even know that they can edit. I'd recommend bold, emphasized text on the main event page pointing new contributors to the resources page, and more of a focus on providing support in getting started from the absolute beginning (i.e., registering an account, how to edit, etc.). I also can't find information about contacting the organizers in the event pages.
- Best regards, Vermont (🐿️—🏳️🌈) 20:25, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Vermont, thank you very much for your suggestions. I'll answer your concerns:
- The banner text is the one the global campaign has been using. @Astinson (WMF): is there other phrase we could use?
- I've added a paragraph for beginners in which we invite them to look at the resources page, join the telegram chat (which is included in the event registration tool as well) and to write us by mail in case of doubts.
- I wasn't able to look the banner. It gave me an error but, if you agree with it, we can wait for Alex Stinson's opinions regarding the banner's message. Best, Paula (WDU) (talk) 14:00, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Vermont the tag line has been working pretty well in the contexts where communities are testing it.
- One way the action could be clarified would be "Add knowledge for a sustainable future to Wikipedia" or something like that -- where its more of an action language, than a tag line. I think we rely a lot on the landing pages to clarify the action with most central notice campaigns, and I trust Paula and team to do that well, Astinson (WMF) (talk) 12:53, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Vermont: we'd like to use the phrase we proposed earlier to be in sync with the global campaign. I've already made the improvements to the landing page you suggested, could you please enable the banner? Thank you very much in advance. Best regards, Paula (WDU) (talk) 15:30, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
- Paula (WDU), I've enabled the campaign to run for 4 weeks: 1 May to 29 May. I also added it to the campaigns calendar. Regards, Vermont (🐿️—🏳️🌈) 23:24, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
