We are pleased to announce the results of our multilingual wiki-collaboration contest, Bridges across Cultures, which took place among languages from Latin America, the Middle East & North Africa and Russia during December 2019.
The contest was organized by Wikimedia affiliates of different countries with the aim of exchanging cultural experiences and values between the three regions; as the contestants from either Latin America, Russia or MENA were asked to write and expand Wikipedia articles related to the rich and unique culture of the other regions.
In total, 769 valid articles were created or improved as part of this contest: 287 articles were written in Spanish and Portuguese, 201 in Arabic, Persian and Turkish Wikipedia, and 281 in Russian, Bashkir, Chechen and Lezgi. 57 different participants submitted at least one valid article to the contest.
As for the results, nine prizes were designated for the best performing contestants (with three being dedicated for the best participants from Latin America, Russia or MENA) and three for the best articles created for the contest (one for each regional group).
