Here is a detailed budget of what hardware costs entail for Q4, 2005.

• Multipurpose application servers
• Data management servers
• Serial console servers
• NFS storage server
• UPSes
• Power distribution units
• Support gear (cables, switches, hard drives...)

Current proposal

based on Kate's proposal below

• 50 x Apache / application server system:

  2x Opteron 248 / 2GB = $2,376 x 50 = $118,800

• 4 x Database server:

  2x Opteron 275 / 16GB / 450GB = $12,480 x 4 = $49,920

• 2 x Cisco C2948G-GE switch: $2,500 x 2 = $5,000
• 1 x Image storage server: price TBD (approx $6,000?)
• 4 x Squid: 1.6GHz Opteron, 4GB, 4 x 36GB SATA: $2,831 x 4 = $11,324

= $191,044 This is a final number
