On December 26, 2021, in Wikimedian's telegram chats, it was announced that a new Russian non-profit organization was born — Wikimedia Saint Petersburg.

The newly formed organization is the face of the Wikimedia Foundation's affiliation "Wikimedia Community of Saint Petersburg User Group", recognized by the Affiliation Committee (AffCom). Reda Kerbush, a well-known Wikimedia volunteer, was elected us the Chairman of the RNGO "Wikimedia St. Petersburg". According to information from the organization's website, the purpose of its activities is to support wikimedia projects: attracting volunteers, developing free software, defending the human right to access knowledge and education at all levels. Just for remind, in Russia since 2008 there has been a non-profit organization "Wikimedia RU"..

On January 10, 2022, a wiki-meeting and a walk around the city were held in St. Petersburg with Farkhad Fatkullin, the “Wikimedian of the Year (2018)”, who participated in the Second Meeting of Local History Wikis of the North-West of Russia and, after which, whiled away the time before flying to Kazan.
