Abstract:

This session explores the collaborative world of Wikibooks, focusing on the importance of writing women's biographies. We'll delve into the educational value of accessible biographies, highlighting the need for a diverse representation of the world: Through fostering partnerships between partners, educators and Wikimedia editors, we can empower a new generation of citizens to learn about achievements of remarkable women, explore strategies for contributing in a collaborative way and celebrate the power of storytelling using the Wikimedia projects as a educational tool.

How will this session be beneficial for the communities in the region of CEE?

This lecture at CEEM will equip educators with valuable tools and resources to address the gender gap in biographies and empower students to become active participants in shaping a more inclusive society. WikiDonne's PCTO experience in different regions of Italy experience (in Basilicata, Emilia-Romagna, Puglia)::

  • helps to build a curriculum (the activity is set as extra curricular activities that awards school credits and fosteri a more inclusive learning environment);
  • empowers students, equip them with research and writing skills, promotes their critical thinking, encouraging students to analyze the historical and cultural context of women's achievement;
  • buids a public knowledge that give a wider understanding of women's contributions across various fields and
  • helps to build the community by connecting a local network of educators, editors and partners dedicated to educational equity.
