Wikimedia Armenia announced "Wiki loves Science" new long-term project-marathon which is aimed at enriching the Armenian Wikipedia with popular science content. "Wiki Loves Science" comprises dozens of projects, including Wiki Loves Physics, Mathematics, Literature, Biology, Geology, Medicine, etc. [1]

"We’re starting by trying to activate all spheres. We have lists that have been filled with information from encyclopedias, but there will most likely be a need to update that information since the encyclopedias were written 20-30 years ago,” said Susanna Mkrtchyan in an interwiew given to hayernaysor.am[2]

Young Biologists Association edit

Young Biologists Association NGO was established in 2009. The members of organization are more than 170 young scientists and students from universities and scientific institutions of Armenia. Their mission is to consolidate young professionals from different fields of biology, to realize their ideas, and to implement biology and nature conservation oriented projects. Their activities are also directed to expand youth participation towards society development.

Wikimedia Armenia began cooperation with the association within Wiki loves Science project to involve young biologists in Wikipedia editing process. Within this cooperation 2 workshops were organized in Wikimedia Armenia office for 12 Association members on September 2 and 4 (6 members in each workshop).

Young Chemists Association NGO members are students and young scientists from different Universities of Armenia. Wikimedia Armenia began cooperation with the association within Wiki loves Science project to involve young chemists in Wikipedia editing process. Within this cooperation a workshop was organized in Wikimedia Armenia office for 5 Association members on September 9.

YSMU edit

Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi is one of the leading Government Medical University in Eastern Europe. It was founded in 1919 as a faculty and established as an independent Institution in 1930. The University is enlisted in the Directory of Higher Medical Institutions adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO). YSMU is a State non-commercial instutution under the Ministry of Education and Science. Currently, over 162 Doctor of Sciences and 481 Ph.D. degree holders constitute the university faculty of 1100 Professors.

Wikimedia Armenia began cooperation with YSMU within Wiki loves Science project to involve students in Wikipedia editing process. Within this cooperation a workshop was organized in Wikimedia Armenia office for 11 students on September 10.

WLS First Weekend edit

 
Wiki loves Science, first weekend

Wikimedia Armenia organized an editing weekend within Wiki loves Science project for young scientists and students on September 12-14 in Tsakhkadzor. All the participants were editors who during previous workshops showed interest to wiki editing and wanted to learn more about wiki movement, editing tools, article creation etc. Internet was provided by VivcaCell MTS mobile operator. The schedule of the Weekend was planned beforehand. Along with mastering wiki editing tools participants were creating articles in their field of study. 19 participants and 4 organization team members took part in the Weekend.

YSU SSS edit

Yerevan State University Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology was founded in 1991 on the basis of the Department of Romance and Germanic Languages of the Faculty of Philology. Currently more than 1700 students study at the 7 departments of the Faculty.

Wikimedia Armenia began cooperation with YSU Student Scientific Society within Wiki loves Science project to involve students in Wikipedia editing process. Within this cooperation a workshop was organized in Wikimedia Armenia office for 6 students on September 16.

YSU Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology edit

In 1992 the Department of Psychology was opened at the Faculty of Philosophy and it was renamed the Faculty of Philosophy, Sociology and Psychology. Five chairs, the experimental psychology laboratory, scientific-research laboratories for experimental psychology and for personal and professional activities function in its structure, as well as Centre for Applied Psychology. One NAS RA Academician, 1 NAS RA associate member, 11 doctors of sciences and professors and 25 candidates of sciences and assistant professors are involved in the educational process of the faculty currently.

Wikimedia Armenia began cooperation with YSU Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology students within Wiki loves Science project to involve psychology students in Wikipedia editing process. Within this cooperation a workshop was organized in Wikimedia Armenia office for 9 students on September 24.

Workshop with "Future is yours" NGO

"Future is yours" non-governmental organization implements projects in such important spheres as Education, Culture, Social, Civil Society, Human Rights, Environment, as well as projects aimed at development of voluntary service in Armenia and others.

The organization within the framework of its mission implements wide range of educational, informative and cultural Projects in Yerevan and regions of Armenia as well as international and regional projects on developing consciousness of the youth. Within one of the organization's project the project leader asked Wikimedia Armenia to organize a workshop for their members who were students from different high schools of Yerevan. The workshop was organized on September 2.

Yerevan 190 high school edit

Education program launched in October, 2013 was in progress. On September 17 a workshop was organized in 190 high school after Galust Gyulbenkyan of Yerevan. The participants learned about Wikipedia, how it works, learned wiki editing tools, etc.

AUA faculty of Political Science edit

The American University of Armenia provides teaching, research, and service programs that prepare students and enable faculty and researchers to address the needs of Armenia and the surrounding region for sustainable development, in a setting that values and develops academic excellence, free inquiry, integrity, scholarship, leadership, and service to society.

The two-year Political Science and International Affairs program offers a graduate curriculum that focuses on the examination of international relations, the study of comparative and domestic political and economic systems, processes and policies. Throughout the course programs, students are encouraged to think critically about policy issues and politics from both a local and global perspective as they engage in policy analysis, research and leadership training.

Within the cooperation between AUA and Wikimedia Armenia 2 workshops were organized for AUA students on September 9 and 20.
