Wikicamp Nepal 2018

Wikicamp Nepal 2018 (WCN) is a three day event for experienced and new Wikipedians of Nepal. The main objective of the event is to increase the Wikimedia offline activities in Nepal, develop skills of the new Wikipedians and bring together experienced and newbie Wikipedians. This brought together Wikipedians from Nepali, Maithili, Doteli, Newari (Nepal Bhasha), Bhojpuri, Sanskrit and Santali Community as well as 2 emerging Incubator communities - Awadhi and Marwari.
This is first event of its kind being held in Nepal and is intended to become an annual national flagship event for Wikipedia/Wikimedia in the country.

Abstract (in about 300 words)

Pywikibot is a Python library and collection of tools that automate work on MediaWiki sites. Originally designed for Wikipedia, it is now used throughout the Wikimedia Foundation's projects and on many other MediaWiki wikis.

The project started in 2002 and is currently on core version 3.0. It features full API usage and is up-to-date with new MediaWiki features and a Pythonic package layout. Pywikibot supports Microsoft Windows, OS X and Linux when used with a compatible version of Python. It should also work on any other operating system that has a compatible version of Python installed.

In this workshop, we will explore mediawiki api, various python libraries for mediawiki. Also, we will train to develop a small bot for adding and replacing content.

Pr-requisite for this workshop will be:

  • A bit knowledge on Python Programming
  • The basics editing of Wikipedia.
  • Knowledge on Windows command line.
  • Laptop with Windows operating system.
