Wikicamp Nepal 2018/Scholarships
Wikicamp Nepal 2018 (WCN 2018) is being held on 22nd, 23rd & 24th of November 2018 in Lahan, Province No.2, Nepal. WCN 2018 Scholarships Program is offering a limited number of scholarships to cover the cost of selected individuals' travel, event registration fee and accommodation.
The anticipated timeline for the WCN 2018 Scholarship Program is as follows:
- Scholarship applications open:
15 August 2018
- Deadline for applying for scholarships:
14 September 2018 23:59 UTC
- Applicants are notified about final decisions:
5 October 2018
- The final list of recipients will be announced:
17 October 2018
- Round trip travel
- Shared accommodation
- Wiki Camp Nepal registration fee
We expect to support maximum 25-28 individual scholarship holders.
Eligibility to apply scholarship
Any active contributors of Wikimedia Projects (Wikipedia, Incubator projects, Wiki Commons etc) with at least 200 contribution (edits) is considered eligible to apply for a scholarship. Specifically, an active contributors of Nepali, Maithili, Nepal Bhasha (Newari), Doteli, Bhojpuri, Sanskrit, Awadhi (Incubator project) and Marwari (Incubator project) wikip(m)edians are encourage to apply for the full/partial scholarship.
Phase-1: Eligibility assessment
All application will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee to check whether the application is eligible to pass (1) or fail (0) in accordance to the Phase-1 selection criteria.
Phase-2: In-depth evaluation
All application that pass Phase-1 will be reviewed in more details by the Scholarship Committee, with a minimum of 2 reviewers per application. Each reviewer will independently examine and score each application against the Phase-2 selection criteria, to reach a final score for each application.
Phase-3: Final approval
Based on the Phase-2 reviews, there will be an average final score generated for each applicants. The Scholarship Committee will award the scholarship ensuring the gender and language diversity.
Female participation- To ensure the gender diversity, minimum 4 to 5 female applicants will be awarded by the scholarship.
Language Communities- To make sure the participation from diverse communities, The active contributors based on the community size- Nepali, Maithili, Nepal Bhasha (Newari), Doteli, Bhojpuri, Sanskrit, Awadhi (Incubator project) and Marwari (Incubator project) will be awarded by the scholarship.
Phase 1- Eligibility assessment
Application will fail Phase-1, if any of the following failing criteria apply:
- The application consist of topic or content which is off- topic or abusive.
- The applicant has failed to answer the questions on the application form.
- The candidate has been permanently blocked or globally banned in any wikimedia projects.
- The candidate has failed to demonstrate the contribution towards the Wikimedia movement.
Phase 2- In-depth evaluation
Each member of Scholarship committee will grade the applicants on a scale of 0-10 based on value addition regarding Collaboration, Leadership, Impact, and Potential. These will cover many aspects of one's activity as seen below:
- Contribution to Wikimedia projects.
- Demonstrated collaborated activities online and offline on Wikimedia projects.
- Role within most active Wikimedia community (editor, sysop, bureaucrat, etc.,)
- Offline work related to Wikimedia projects, including contests, collaborations, etc.
- Demonstration of blogs, reports, etc. that show valuable contribution back to the community.
- Role in organizing WCN 2018 and participation in WCN 2018.
